thanks, this helped me to understand. Ok so when it last said to
update I said no and it hasn't come up again. So please tell me
where where I go to re-instate the correct update for my computer,
and perhaps the site to learn about it. Sorry I put it in the wrong
section before but I didn't know what it was and am making an effort
to get to know all these things on my computer, for which is the
right section. Thanks for the advices.
You should have Java in the Control Panel if it's installed. One of
the tabs will be Update.
Info on Java
<http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Java_(programming_language)>
I have Java installed and I don't see anything about Java in the
Control Panel (including Classic view)...except for uninstall.
That would be in add/remove programs. There should be a seperate
control panel applet for Java. You can get the latest Java here:
http://java.sun.com/javase/downloads/?intcmp=1281
You want the JRE 6 Update 13.
I have (and have had for many weeks in this relatively new computer) JRE
6 Update 13 (as well as the SDK and a few other things). I do *not* have
anything about Java under the Control Panel except for uninstalling
Java, under Add/Remove Programs, which, BTW, is in the Control Panel.
However, I did your homework for you. I searched for *.cpl, and found
these items:
java.cpl in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jdk1.6.0_13\jre\bin
java.cpl in C:\Program Files (x86)\Java\jre1.6.0\bin
I'm not sure why you don't have the control panel applet. Is it possible
it's near the bottom and you don't have the items sorted by name?
I have javacpl.cpl in c:\windows\system32
.
