Re: Need to restore without loosing files

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Any general OS questions not related to the Media Center application or functionality (which is what this group discusses) should be directed to one of the relevant Windows XP groups, as that is the underlying operating system of MCE.

Sorry. Thought that since I was running Windows Media Center this would be
the place to ask. I will try the usb converter. Thanks

This is a Window Media Center newsgroup, your question doesn't seem to be
related to that topic. You would probably get more/better help posting on a
general forum for whatever OS you have on your system.

You might want to read this KB article carefully, you may be able to recover
the drive, but there is a chance of some data loss:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/297185

It's hard to say whether that error is indicating a serious problem with the
drive or if most or all of the data is recoverable.

If you knew someone who had cable to directly connect the 2.5 inch drive in
the laptop to another PC (or via a USB converter), you could possibly
examine and remove data from the drive before attempting a reinstall.
