Re: Windows XP Pro/32-Bit CD-ROM Driver

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Who said anything about "buying" anything? And, I thought I was in the
General Section when I posted this, so ooooops ... no flexibility in the
newsgroup to move these posts over there. I mentioned the pre-SP1 version of
XP Pro, because that is the date on the driver being used by my Pioneer
DVD-RW <rolling eyes>. You're not talking to a computer illiterate for
crying out loud. I just had a feeling that newer versions of the OS have
later-dated versions of that standard driver.

Anyway, it just looks like what I'm asking for doesn't exist, although the
manufacturer of the backup software mentioned Adaptec as a possible driver
resource to replace Microsoft's standard driver. It is strange that my DVD-RW
DVR-111D didn't come with a driver, because it's not an uncommon drive.
Having to use MS Standard drivers is a pain, and you make a good point about
the manufacturer of the device providing the drivers, but Pioneer is
impossible when it comes to support. Thanks for your input.

SP3 would most likely have the newest MS version of any drivers for your
drive. MS includes device drivers with the OS as a convenience, but the
manufacturers are ultimately responsible for writing/updating device
drivers. If you have checked the manufacturer and MS update, you may already
have the newest version. Many devices are branded by various companies, but
actually made by a different OEM, the drivers may be found at some
completely different company.

Again, posting your question on the correct newsgroup (like a general XP
group or perhaps "~.windowsxp.hardware") would probably yield more help as
the people here specialize in Media Center specific question.
