Re: No audio during Live tv or recorded tv via FTA box/tuner..?

Hi CSM1,

Sounds like we are etting somewhere... I will pick up a y splitter in the
next or so and try that... as for the PCM/AC3 decoder... what do you
recommend...? My tuner card shows up as a SMRT satellite card and was the OEM
that my model came with >> See below.... Do you think I need to start looking
for a Twinhan FTA satellite capture card instead...??

Hard Drive : 250GB2 7200rpm SATA

Hello AJ.

What tuner or video capture device are you using in MCE?
You can use Y-cables to connect both the TV and the computer to the CoolSat
box at the same time.

Then what you get on the TV is also on the tuner or capture card. Audio
configure is to use the Audio input from the device you are using.

Make sure your sound is not muted on the computer and the volume controls
are turned up.

Bitstream audio from SPDIF is PCM audio, and must have a decoder. MCE does
not have a PCM or AC3 decoder built in.

Hi CSM1,

I thought about that too and when I disconnect the L/R audio jacks from
the
tv, I lose audio so it is playing.. I then checked the specs below for the
CS5K sat box and it says it suports bitstream audio from the SPDIF... I
will
try changing all of my settings but after checking MCE, I now have no
Audio
selctions to change..? They have disappeared since I did the MCE rollup
2...
I may have to start all over again...

Sorry to *** in, AJ
Is the audio output from the FTA STB a Red and White connector (Right and
Left audio).
Is it possible that the audio is AC3 instead of PCM audio.

If your Coolsat is like my Pansat, AC3 audio is silent on the Red and
White
connectors.
I only get the AC3 audio via the S/PDIF output and a S/PDIF decoder in
the
Home Theater.

The tuner card I have in my computer has the composite video and red and
white audio connectors.

Otherwise you can use the line input on the sound card. You do have to
configure the audio (make sure the line in is not muted) on the computer
for
that to work

Hi James,

I am currently using a Coolsat 5k STB box and it only has Composite and
coax
outs on it. The line from my LNB goes into the box, then I use the TV
out
to
go to the PC.. Composite cables project the picture to my Vizio VW46
along
with the audio cables. The box is only an SD box thus the reason for no
direct HDMI connection to the tv or pc... I am not sure what you mean
by
tuning the MCE to channel 3 or 4 as I have never had to do that before
and
would need to understand how to check that as a possible option. as for
the
pc speakers working, they are indeed.. I can connect the original set
up
into
the mini jacks and that works.. I then plugged in a mini-jack cable
which
has
the RCA jacks on the other end and that is how I am transmitting audio
out
of
the pc to the Denon receiver. I have also verified that sound is
working
by
playing back the prior recordings from 2006 when I was a regular Dish
sub
and
using their box of which I am no longer.

BTW, thanks for your willingness to help. I have been thinking about
this
issue and I have tried running Audio out of the sat box to the OEM
Gigapocket
tuner but no change. I then ran it from the tuner to the TV just to see
if
I
was missing something and again, no change. Is there a separation of
Audio
and Video coming from the satellite that perhaps the tuner is not
catching..?
I also noticed if I turn my Denon recvr up very loud then I can hear
the
live
tv audio but very, very faintly.

I'm a little lost now, are you saying that if STB coax goes into the
TV
(and
I assume you tune it to channel 3 or 4), you get sound, but when that
same
coax plugs into the tuner card (and you tune MC to 3 or 4), you don't
get
sound? You probably need to first establish whether you have sound
when
you
just plug speakers into the pc to isolate if the problem is sound
getting
to
the PC or from the PC to the other audio.

I'm am also a little lost on why you are using a coax (which is
sending
analog SD) from the cable box, if you have HDMI to the TV.

OK, I will try that again.. I thought I had already but perhaps
mis-config's
it.. Right now the Sat box is feeding the TV directly and I get full
sound,
etc.. However, there is not two sets of outs on the sat box only one
so
what
is your idea of connecting everything..? Should I run the Audio out
to
the
PC, then bank on the ATi Radeon Vid card to push the audio back to
the
TV
via
DVI-HDMI output/input...? or will the PC push the audio out to the
Denon
Recvr that I have it going through currently (mini-jack to RCA L/R
connected
to the VDP input) and the rest will just take care of itself..?

Thanks for your help BTW.. - A.J.

"Jaime" wrote:

Typically, when using a set-top-box (STB) you connect separate
video
(RCA/S-Video/etc.) and audio (L/R RCA) connections. Some people do
use
and
then tune the TV or Media Center to channel 3/4/etc. and the STB
changes
channels. It is possible that the coax out is only sending video,
so
you
might try connecting the audio out to the audio input on the tuner.

BTW, it is unlikely that you were getting digital cable directly in
the
past
if you were directly connected (no box) to the cable connection. It
has
only
been in the last year or so that PC makers have released
specialized
Media
Center systems that have a cable-card tuner; this allows direct
connection
to a digital source by renting a cable card from your provider.

Currently that is the only way to receive all the digital content
through
cable. You can receive Over The Air digital with an antenna and
some
digital
card will receive unencrypted digital signals (Clear QAM) through
coax,
but
generally those are only a small portion of the digital offerings.
For
instance, here in Orlando, if I plug in a Clear QAM tuner to Bright
House
(Time-Warner), it finds several hundred stations, but only about 35
can
be
viewed, the rest are locked.

Directly with Coax... I can preview the guide (sees 14 days out),
set
recordings and it does record but the sound issue is still got

Hi Curious,

Your answer was cut-off but I get it... Yes, there was a
change
and
now
I
think I have figured out what I need to do just need some
clarification
from
someone.... If I understand my original Tuner card (Sony Vaio
VGC-RA826)
it
came with was only designed to pick up and complety decode
Digital
TV
such
as
coming straight from a cable source, i.e. (comcast, etc) It
will
not
work
with FTA boxes like (Nfusion, Sonicview, Viewsat)... If that
is
correct,
then
what I need is a tuner card that will work with the FTA boxes,
decode
HD
with
Audio and Video... If anyone knows of a card out there like
that,
please
drop
a line....

My currecnt situation still exists when I turn on MCE and go
to
Live
TV..
I
still get no Audio perhaps because the tuner card is unable to
decode
that
portion...? As for my prior recordings, I checked the dates of
.
