Mike,
If your connector to the back of the PC is a round one then it is a PS2 connector if it is a flat connector it is a USB connector.

Actually, you have XP MCE 2005 on that computer, the "2002" is the underlying XP version, not the MCE version.

You could check to make sure that a KB driver didn't get changed, go to the Device Manager in Control Panel and expand the listing for the keyboard. Check the Driver tab, if the button to "Roll Back Driver" can be clicked, you could try that and see if it helps. If the button is grayed out, then you have the original driver loaded, so that probably isn't the problem. You could try uninstall the KB, then restarting the PC to let it reload the driver, but that will probably just reload the same driver.

You could just have a KB or PS2 connector that is going out, but that is probably less likely. If you have another KB, you try swapping them.

Or, since this problem occurs randomly, the least frustrating would be to just go find a cheap USB KB replacement. Mmake sure you don't get another PS2 style one, in case there is a hardware problem. You can find KB's for <$10 on up in price, sometimes, you can find fancy ones for practically free after rebate/sales/etc.

James, thanks for reply. XP MC is 2002, SP3. Keyboard is connected to round
port on back of pc. I guess that's a PS2? No specialized drivers. PC is
eMachines T5048 with eMachines keyboard Model 9908. Doubt that will help you.
This keyboard has been with pc since I bought it two years ago.

Care to share what version of Media Center (XP or Vista), how the KB is
connected (USB, PS2, wireless), are you running any specialized KB drivers
(like some multimedia drivers use), etc., etc.?
