Per Curious:
If you are currently concurrently receiving 3 OTA
digital programs then that is not what is eating up your CPU power.

Thanks for the confirmation.

I only have one card right now - but I'd like to have 3, so I'm
shopping. It was only an assumption (but a good one, I think,
with analog) that two or three programs concurrently being
encoded would be a problem. But, since I'm talking only
digital, it sounds like my assumption is wrong in that context.

One card that appeals to me comes in on a USB port and is powered
from the port.

That is appealing BC having all three cards in the box would
leave two of them side-by-side and that seems like a bad idea
heat-wise. But, of course, it has on onboard MPEG capability.

I'm currently running 4 analog tuners and 2 digital in the same system
and
have successfully recorded all 6 at the same time. 1 dual analog on
PCI
and
2 analog/digital on PCIx1. YMMV.

Sounds great got any pictures of your system???

Yes. I've got one <a
href="http://so-la-i.com/0807270013_m.bmp";>here</a>.
The PCI-e cards are the top left 2 slots, followed by the dual PCI card.

That's great what kind of case is that??? Also what is connected to
the analog tuners?
If u have more pics of the whole system that would be great.

Fogot to mention that the analog tuners are connected to 'basic' analog
cable (COX in San Diego). The digital side is via an indoor amplified
antenna (ATSC OTA).

Thanks nice box I was going to get that but since I was new to
building htpc did not want to get involved with the digital front
panel. Is analog cable just hooked straight to cable and not from a
set top box? I used to do that but after a while the cable company
changed and I could not see many of the channels I used to watch. So
the only way was to use a set top box and then I can look at
everything and record everything but only 1 at a time.

Direct to cable. If I wanted the 'pay' channels, I'd have to have 2 STB's
and route either composit or s-video to the dual NTSC tuner (don't know if
I could set-up 4 that way since it would require an additional
receiver/blaster).

The front panel flouresent display is basically plug-n-play with the drivers
supplied by Zalman - no hassel setting up with MCE 2005.

Yeah well maybe my next project I will use the front panel display. I
may need to call on you for some advice. For me as I said previously I
had to change to the set top box since most or almost all of the
channels I normally watch were being blocked. Hence I could not see
them without a set top box. It got to the point where I was almost
forced to go to the set top box. If I didnt want to record shows that
were not on the basic channels I would have been fine, however there
were shows I like to watch from like the Sci-Fi channel and those were
unwatchable without a set top box.
