Re: Restricted Content Message on old MCE Recordings

Thanks Gene, I will try that. I didn't know that was an option in the Recycle
Bin. Learn something new every day. I did try shutting down the media center
service and copying them back, but that didn't restore the license info. I
will try the "restore" option as you suggest.

Thanks. Bobby

Hi Jason,

One more question regarding this problem. I stated that I had deleted the
files in the DRM subdir. All info is retained in my trash basket. Is there a
way that I could restore the info, since I have all the deleted files in the
trash basket.

Thanks. Bobby

New hotfix available to fix protected content playback errors in Update
Rollup 2 for Media Center 2005
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2006/04/14/576752.aspx

This was released in April of 2006.

Unfortunately, all your old stuff is now gone, as you had deleted the
licenses for them.

I'm surprised you weren't able to pull up a more recent solution, which
would have certainly mentioned the above blog and the links to the
associated fixes. Sorry to hear that you lost access to your pre-drm fix
content...

Hi Jason, thanks for responding and your help. I have copied the post that
I
used below. This did correct the problem with viewing premium channels. It
just left me with not being able to view older recordings. The post is
from
3/26/2006:

It sounds like your DRM store might be botched.

If that is the case, try resetting it by following every step of these
instructions.

To fix it, follow these steps.

1. Goto your command prompt (Start, Run and type CMD) and enter the
command
'net stop ehRecvr'
2. Close all your applications that might be accessing anything DRM
related
(Media Player and the like)
3. Delete all the files within this directory "C:\Documents and
Settings\All
Users\DRM" (Note that the Windows Media DRM folder is a hidden system
folder., so you may need to change your settings to allow hidden folders
to
be shown). If you cannot delete the files, reboot and repeat the first
two
steps.
4. Individualize the Windows Media DRM system by going to this link -
http://go.microsoft.com/FWLink?LinkID=34506
5. Install the Media Player update so that subsequent media related
installs
don't trample over your DRM -
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/details.aspx?FamilyId=295F822B-957F-408E-88BA-1510F481BF9A

That should fix the issue for all your future recordings so you don't run
into this issue again.

Hi All,

I didn't seem to find any questions related to this, so am posting my
question.

I had the problem of viewing premium channels and getting the
restricted
content message. I got that fixed with a solution from Jason Tsang. I
can
view with no problems now. However, now all of my older premium channel
recordings spread over 3 hard drives gives me the restricted content
error
message. Is there a fix or work around for this?

I have tried recording off of premium channels since I fixed the
original
problem and viewing and watching recorded programs works fine. It seems
that
only viewing older recordings are now affected.

Thanks. Bobby
