Re: MCX disconnects after 30 minutes

I confess to being confused by the OP's diagram, but I wonder if just using an Ethernet switch instead of the second router would do what he wants. That's what I would do...I think :-)

On 9/18/2008, Barb Bowman posted this:
109 usually means the MCE shell exited unexpectedly. 113 is just
"session established successfully"

can you connect the DMA2100 directly to the MCE PC with Ethernet,
bypassing all switches, routers, access point and see if you have
issues?

what AV software do you have? what else is running on the PC at the
time?

You spoke earlier about having the balance the load and the need for
two routers. I can't see any kind of load here with what you listed.
But direct connecting the extender to the PC will rule out all of
those conflicts.

Took a relook on the network it should be:

Modem
WRT300N (Gateway/DHCP) ----- Notebook PC (LAN)
Wifi (WPA2) +------Switch -------------------- WRT54G ---------------- Wifi (WPA2) HP Media PC AiO Printer/Fax/Scan Hava (Future)
+------ AP (WPA2)

I took the WRT54G off the network and still 30 minute connection timeout occurs.

Thanks Again.

Hello Barb,

First off I took the second router WRT54G out of the network (one router network) and still the 30 minute timeout exist. Now on your question, here is how I setup my network

modem
WRT300N (Gateway/DHCP) --- Notebook Work PC (LAN)
Wifi (WPA2)
+------------- WRT54G -- Switch --- HP Media PC
| DMA2100
| AiO Printer/Fax/Scan
| Hava (PVR) (Future)
+Wifi (WPA2)

+------------- AP (WPA2)

I would have 2 or more adhoc notebooks accessing my network via Wifi. Again Thanks for looking into my issue.

not sure what you mean by balancing the load. how many computers do
you have on this network? can you post info on what is connected to
what like

modem

wrt300N

Hello Barb,

I have not tried removing one router. Will do that to check and reply. The WRT300N is the DHCP/Gateway/Router. This is my edge device. The WRT54G is just a router to balance the load. Its hooked to my MC PC via switches. Would this impact the MCE. I am having expansion plan for a Voice Gateway soon. Thanks so much for getting back.

you have two routers ? that certainly complicates this. does this
happen if you remove one router from the picture? how are these
connected to your broadband modem? which is the edge device? is the
WRT300N connected to the modem? is the WRT54G configures as an
access point and not as a router handing out DHCP addresses?

Hi Everyone,

I am currently faced with a situation where the Media PC disconnects my extender in about 30 minutes. I connect both Media PC and extender (DMA2100) wired (Cat 5) to the routers (WRT300N and WRT54G). All connections and bandwidth works fine and at maximum stable performance. Event Viewer indicate ID 109 about 30 minutes everytime about ID 113. System Log does not have events that associate to Media Event. I have tried the following still connection fails in 30 minutes. - Turn-off Firewall
- Turn-off UAC
- Set no-sleep, no-hibenate for PC, network card.
- Reboot PC, Routers, switches
- Re-install MCX
This seems to be experience by other users regardless of extenders. I guess it is a much awaited solution by many. Thanks truly for your help.
