Re: live and recorded HDTV stutters

Hello all,
I have finally fixed the problem so I thought I would post the solution in
case anyone else has a similar problem. The problem seemed to be RF
interference within the PC case. I have purchased a USB2 HD dual tuner which
sits outside the and it works great - same picture quality and channels as my
Set Top Box. See link for details
(http://www.digitalnow.com.au/dvbtcards.html). If anyone has similar
problems I would recommend trying an external tuner where RF interference is
reduced.

Good luck.

If you can burn a recorded program to a DVD and then it plays fine. Then
there is noting wrong with your signal strength since the program was
received and recorded without problem.
When you play the DVD are you playing it in MC or with another DVD player
application?
Have you checked to be sure the drivers for your sound card are the latest
available?

Hello Curious,
Yes, sometimes it is just the picture but mostly it is the sound and
picture. I live in Australia, channel nine is a free to air station
here - I
don't have pay TV. I have also noticed that if I record channel 9 and
watch
the play back sometimes it gives me a blue screen with "Digital Audio
Service" and sound still going - to get the picture back I have to stop
watching put something else on and then resume watching the payback again
and
the picture is back - seems weird to me.
Thanks

Does the sound on channel 9 also stutter? What network is Channel 9?

Hello Curious,
I have tried it though Media Player and it still sutters. I just had
the
TV
Antenna guy here and he said the signal is good (works perfectly OK
through
my STB) and that media centre is much more sensitive to signal - he
reckons
there isn't much more he can do! Would a different tuner card or
decoder
software reduce the signal loss??
PS - it is not related to HD as digital 9 and HD9 are both poor but
HD10
is
good.

If you still have some problems play a recorded TV program with Media
Player
instead of MC if the recorded program is fine with Media Player then
there
is no signal strength problem since there is nothing wrong with the
recording.

Hello JW,
I couldn't figure out how to enable dma disk transfers, however in
the
mean
time I have noticed that since making the Nvidia decoder default, I
only
get
the stutter on some channels which suggests a signal issue (my HDSTB
doesn't
have a problem so media centre must be more sensitive to signal).

I am pretty sure changing the decoder settings has worked! Thanks
so
much
for your help.

Does the sound also stutter? If yes check for latest sound card
driver
and
that disk caching and dma disk transfers are enabled.

Thanks for the response JW.
I ran the XP decoder check utility and set the NVIDIA Purevideo
decoder
as
default (it wasn't), but it still stutters. It does it for both
live
TV
and
recorded play back. I have noticed that if I burn the recorded
program
to
DVD it is OK.

Any other thoughts??

One more question:
Does the problem also happen when playing recorded TV programs?

When watching live or recorded HDTV the picture stutters for
about a
second,
say every 10mins. Sometimes it is just the picture and others
it
is
the
sound and the picture. It does it using WinXP MC as well as
the
Dvico
software. DVD playback is fine.

When using the Dvico software it says the signal is 100% so I
don’t
think
that is the problem.

I have found some posts about ADM dual core CPU’s, mine isn’t
dual
core
(see
below) but I am not sure if has the same kind of issues as
other
posts
have
identified? If it is the CPU I am happy to buy another one if
someone
can
recommended one that will work!

Details are:
Windows XP Media Centre Edition
Mother board - ABIT KN8 Ultrua V1.1
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3500+ 512KB Socket 939 CPU
RAM - 2 x 1GB PC3200 400 Mhz DDR RAM
Hard Drive Memory – 500GB
Video Card - MSI NX8500GT MTD256EH
Tuner Card - DVICO FUSION HDTV DVB-T "DUAL DIGITAL 4" Hi-Def
TV
TUNERS
CARD

Cable - HDMI video card to HDMI TV

I have also installed NVIDIA pure video decoder software and
the
latest
drivers the video card.

Any assistance would be greatly appreciated as this is
starting
to
get
very
annoying.

Thanks heaps
Elsiehar
