Re: S-video TV tuner setup in Vista Ultimate MC

You can not switch analog sources in MC. The only ability of MC to support different sources is in North America where it will source one analog source(Coax or S-video) and also OTA ATSC digital as a second source.

Hello,

I have poured hundreds of hours intensively into MC over the last 6 weeks. I
am up and running with both Fusion Dual tuner (DViCO) and the newest offering
of Hauppauge, the 2250 dual tuner. My grief, repeatedly, is lack of ability
to discern location of technical writing and help files for either DViCO and
Hauppauge products. For example. the Hauppauge board and blaster comes only
with single sheet of introduction. When you access the "manual," you are
suddenly reading materials dating to products of a previous year's vintage.
And with DViCo, one has the language barrier of Korean-English that seldom
finds complete, intelligible sentences. Welcome to the new world of
"geek-speak"?

So, what is a person to do? Life is not just lost sleep and hopeful trial
and error. How many times I have been through the channel scanning screens
(and I once complained of always being told to re-boot). Re-booting on a dual
core is much more pleasent than have to wait for channel scanning with cable
connection and over 100 channels !

Suffice it to state, I do have a question or two or three.

But here is just one: In Vista Media Center, how does one swich between
sources?

Yes, I have successfuly set up a cable box with s-video connection to my
Hauppauge 2250 and even with an s-video connection to my DViCO Fusion Dual
PCI express tuner. On the DViCO product, I can merely select the source of
s-video by right-clicking on the DViCO tuner screen and watch my cable box
programs. I see nothing on the Media Center remote or in the Media Center
software that allows me to switch between sources. On the Media Center, I
have a full selection of analog and a selection of approximately 10 HDTV
digital selections from my cable connection.

My experience was made just about perfect upon finally figuring out what the
PC Mag reviewer meant by the QAM add-in being run after setting up by using
the manual configuration of Vista MCE and indicating installation was with
ATSC digital antenna, following the steps of the pictorial offered in the
link below and then running the Hauppauge beta plug-in that was mentioned in
the PC Mag review.

That I have QAM without the cableCARD setup is based upon a software add-in
and instructions offered in the link above.

But oh, that first question... In Vista Media Center with setup achieved for
both cable box through s-video (the s-video connection of the tuner card) and
direct cable (through the coax antenna connecition of the tuner card). how
does one make the selection of the video source?
