Curious, thanks for sticking with me on this problem, I really appreciate it.
I have tried EVERY other MC compatible decoder and none of them make a
difference.
Yes, I can view previously recorded material.
Yes, I can view DVD
No, this is WHY I took the comp to the shop in the first place.
Ok, I have some new information that I think is going to help greatly to
solve this.
I d/l Beyond TV to see if that would work.
It does. Completely and utterly beautifully. :) Now, when I installed the
software it asked me what the first connection was that I wanted to install.
So I used Antenna (Digital). Then it showed it was using the: ATI AVStream
Analog Capture.
Great. Now I had all of my OTA local channels installed.
Then it asked for my second connection. So I used Standard Cable. Then it
showed it was using: ATI BDA Digital Tuner. Then my cable channels were
installed and everything works GREAT!!!
So I think this is where the problem is. I know I have an ATI Unified
AVStream Driver because it shows up in my device Manager. But I have never
seen or heard of the ATI BDA Digital Tuner.
Is the ATI AVStream Analog Capture the same as the ATI Unified AVStream
Driver in my DM? If so, why can Beyond TV use it to find my locals when MD
can't? I'm hoping this new information helps because althgouh I LOVE the
Beyond TV software, I can't afford the $150 to buy it in 21 days when my
trial runs out! I still need to use MC. Hoep to hear back from you soon.
Thanks.

live or recorded mode uses,
First I suggest that you try the other Cyber link decoder that is MC
compatible.
Can you play any previously recorded or sample recorded programs with MC?
Can you play a DVD using MC?
Did the problem first occur when you got your system back from the shop with
the different version of Power DVD installed?

Hello agaian curious, I hope your still with me : ) I DO have ALL updates
installed and I am running .NET Framework 3.0 and Update 3.
I have both my Charter cable and my HD powered antenna connected to my
card.
When I run setup it finds both my cable and HD channels just fine. The
signals for HD are geat.
I can view cable channels with NO problem.
When I try to view HD channels I recieve the following message:
Application
Failure. A critical Media Center process has failed. Please restart your
computer and try again. If the problem persists contact your manufacturewr
for further assisstance.
I have ALL of the latest ATI drivers.
I have shown you my codecs in previous posts.
The codec I am using right now to watch cable is Cyberlink SAC Video
Decoder
CLVSD.ax 6.0.0.2212
The weird thin gis, when I run the new Cyberlink Live program I can view
BOTH HD and cable in the settings interface!!!! What is going on????
"Curious" wrote:
MC does not support QAM so the question in MC center setup is not
relevant
your answer should be analog. The question is really for MC use if you
were
using a digital STB to receive digital channels from your cable company
which you were then feeding to your analog tuner.
With decoder check which of the decoders that you listed do you have
selected as the preferred decoder?
Do you have any problem playing DVDs in MC?
Do you have any problem configuring and watching analog TV with your
cable
service connected to analog input connector?
Do you also have all of the updates to MCE 2005 installed?

Hello again all. Thanks for helping. I DO have the ATI TV Wonder 650
Combo
PCI-E installed. That is what's so frustrating. I HAVE HAD it working
before
for almost 2 months. When I upgraded my hard drive and reinstalled my
WIndows
XP Media Center 2005 is when I started receiving the problems. Also,
reinstalling the cards, etc. I thought I detailed all of this already.
Curious, Media Center asks if you have a analog OR digital conection
for
cable. It then gives you an analog or digital channel line-up based on
your
entry. That's why I think you have to have a digital subscription to
cable
in
order to receive the QAM channels.

Curious,
I am afraid that you think baseman has the ATI 650 Pro PCI-E combo
tuner
and
it appears that he has the older 650 PRO Combo tuner instead
If this is the case then there are several problems first is that the
older
card is in fact a Hybrid tuner card and not a Combo tuner card in the
true
sense. This means that the two tuners can not be used concurrently
and
therefore MC will only allow one of them to be configured.
Also this would mean that in order to configure the ATSC tuner that
another
analog tuner would have to be configured on the system first since the
user
is running MCE2005 and not Vista.
The above problems do not exist with the 650 PRO PCI-E combo tuner
since
the
two tuners are independent of each other and appear that way to either
Vista
MC or to MCE2005.
It appears that the OP is best off to install the ATI TV application
and
use
to watch the OTA ATSC digital channels and use MC to watch the analog
channels from his cable connection.

To receive your unencrypted QAM channels you need to use the ATI
application you can not get them with MC?

Ok, so even if I don't subscribe to digital cable (only basic) OR
have
a
cable box (only the cable directly into my tuner card and a powered
antenna
into my ATSC input connector for hD channels) I can STILL receive
Qam
digital
cable channels?
Then, what I thought was right, I don't NEED to have CCC installed
in
order
to view my chanells. That makes sense because I never HAVE had CCC
running
when both my cable and HD channels were working, just Media Center.
So, what you reccommend I use to VIEW my cable digital qam
channels,
if
possible. I do have Titan TV (just not installed) also I d/l
Cyberlink
Live
(it's new) today. Thank you for your continued help : )
"Curious" wrote:
You receive cable which contains both analog and digital cable
signals.
It
is the tuner or STB which determines if you get analog or digital
channels
or both.
The CCC control center controls the output from your ATI graphics
card
to
your TV. It has nothing to do with the inputs from your Combo
tuner
card.
There are no ATSC digital channels available over cable only QAM
digital
channels.
To receive ATSC you must have an antenna connected to the ATSC/QAM
input
connector on your Combo card.

First off, I do not receive digital cable so I don't know if it
is
possible
to receive digital cable channels? Also, I'm not sure if Titan
TV
is
the
SAME
as the Catalst Control Center or if it is seperate software.
That
is
why
I'm
trying to find someone who really KNOWS the ATI TV/Video cards
and
how
they
are setup, how they function etc. ATI is VERY confusing and
frustrating as
to
how to install, which software/drviers to use and the customer
service
is
absolutely ATROCIOUS!
"Curious" wrote:
If the TitanTV application is the one that came with the card
then
yes
that
is what I want you to install and try.
It should also allow you to receive clearQAM HD channels from
you
cable
provider.
Which you may want to do instead of using an antenna connected
to
the
ATSC
OTA tuner on your 1600.

Curious, that is why I am frustrated. I AM using the latest
tuner
drivers
from the ATI website. Do you think I should install the Titan
TV
application
and try that? I've never used it before so I'm not familiar
with
how it
works. Thanks for your help again.
"Curious" wrote:
I realized that it is the latest drivers for you tuner that

Regretfully I do not have any other ideas if the ATI TV
application
does
not
work independently of the MC TV application.

I do have the Titan TV installer in my ATI folder but I'm
afraid
to
install
it! I have NOT had good luck using ATI CCC before (it has
never
worked
and
always screwed up my viewing in MC) so I haven't tried
that
either.
I
think
every time I had to install the CCC it would install or
reinstall
drivers
I
either had or didn't need (i.e. WMD drivers and such) I
never
used
to
need
it
though, when both my HD and cable channels worked. I could
always
view
them
in MC.
Yes, my local channels are listed starting with 1000, they
just
show
a
black screen when I try to tune to them and then I get the
Application
error.
Also, yes I am using the 8.7 Catalyst drivers.
"Curious" wrote:
Do you also have the ATI TV package installed and can you
watch
both
OTA
analog and OTA digital channels using their app when you
have
an
antenna
connected to both coax inputs?
Do your local OTA digital channels show up starting with
channel
number
1000
in MC?
What release of the ATI CCC drivers are you currently
using?
I
believe
8.7
is the latest release.

Thanks for responding. I AM watching cable TV though
(whcih
was
also
detected
by setup) so I think my decoder is ok. I have always
used
Power
DVD
decoder.
I was using 5.0 which was standard on my Dell and then
when I
got
it
