Re: can't view HD (ATSC) Channels in XP Media Center

First off, I do not receive digital cable so I don't know if it is possible
to receive digital cable channels? Also, I'm not sure if Titan TV is the SAME
as the Catalst Control Center or if it is seperate software. That is why I'm
trying to find someone who really KNOWS the ATI TV/Video cards and how they
are setup, how they function etc. ATI is VERY confusing and frustrating as to
how to install, which software/drviers to use and the customer service is
absolutely ATROCIOUS!

If the TitanTV application is the one that came with the card then yes that
is what I want you to install and try.
It should also allow you to receive clearQAM HD channels from you cable
provider.
Which you may want to do instead of using an antenna connected to the ATSC
OTA tuner on your 1600.

Curious, that is why I am frustrated. I AM using the latest tuner drivers
from the ATI website. Do you think I should install the Titan TV
application
and try that? I've never used it before so I'm not familiar with how it
works. Thanks for your help again.

I realized that it is the latest drivers for you tuner that you need to
install and not the latest drivers for your graphics card.
Regretfully I do not have any other ideas if the ATI TV application does
not
work independently of the MC TV application.

I do have the Titan TV installer in my ATI folder but I'm afraid to
install
it! I have NOT had good luck using ATI CCC before (it has never worked
and
always screwed up my viewing in MC) so I haven't tried that either. I
think
every time I had to install the CCC it would install or reinstall
drivers
I
either had or didn't need (i.e. WMD drivers and such) I never used to
need
it
though, when both my HD and cable channels worked. I could always view
them
in MC.
Yes, my local channels are listed starting with 1000, they just show a
black screen when I try to tune to them and then I get the Application
error.
Also, yes I am using the 8.7 Catalyst drivers.

Do you also have the ATI TV package installed and can you watch both
OTA
analog and OTA digital channels using their app when you have an
antenna
connected to both coax inputs?
Do your local OTA digital channels show up starting with channel
number
1000
in MC?
What release of the ATI CCC drivers are you currently using? I believe
8.7
is the latest release.

Thanks for responding. I AM watching cable TV though (whcih was also
detected
by setup) so I think my decoder is ok. I have always used Power DVD
decoder.
I was using 5.0 which was standard on my Dell and then when I got it
back
from the shop he had installed 7.0 which I obviously like the
software
better. 5.0 wasn't working either when I had it in the shop. Also,
When
I
run
Windows Decoder Checkup this is what I get:

ffdshow Vieo Decoder: MP10 Com-NO ffdshow.ax 1.0.3.1418 MCE
Comp-NO
Cyberlink Video/SP Dec: " " -YES CLVsd.ax 6.0.0.3614 "
"
-YES
GPL MPEG-1/2 Decoder: " " -NO GplMpgDec.ax 0.1.2.0 "
"
-NO
ffdshow raw video filter " " -NO ffdshow.ax 1.0.3.1418
"
" -NO
PP Video Decoder " " -NO ppGenericVSD.ax
6.0.0.33.13
"
-YES
Cyberlink SAC Video Decoder " -YES CLVSD.ax 6.0.0.2122 "
"
-YES

I find it weird that no ATI decoders are listed (they were before I
upgraded
my hard drive) but then again they always showed not compatible as
well. I
am
running a ATI Radeon 2400 PRO for my video card and the TV card
again
is a
ATI TV Wonder 650 Combo with updated drivers. Any other suggestions
would
be
MUCH appreciated.

Any other suggestions are appreciated.

MCE 2005 runs on top of XP 2002. If you got to MC UI and check
general
about MC you will see that you are running MCE2005.
If you have not installed an MCE compatible Decoder on your MCE
2005
system
you will not not be able to watch live TV, Recorded TV or DVDs in
MC.

I'm having a problem viewing my local HD channels in Media
Center.
They
load
fine in setup (signals are also good), but when I try to change
to
them
in
the guide, up pops a black screen and then this error:
Application
Failure. A
Critical Media Center process has failed. Please restart your
computer
and
try again. If the problem persists contact your hardware
manufacturer
for
further assisstance.
I have contacted them and have not received much help at all.
They
tell
me
it has to be a Media Center problem. Nice. I'm running a TV
Wonder
650
Combo
with the latest drivers and Windows XP Media Center Edition 2005
with
Service
Pack 3 and .NET Framework 2.0. Although my system properties say
it's
Media
Center Edition 2002 which I don't understand either...lol. Any
help
with
this
problem (and why my OS is identified incorrectly as well) would
be
MUCH
appreciated. Thanks...
