Just thought I would jump in here as I had/have the exact same problem. I
didn't get a huge response over in the general area so I thought I would just
share with you what I did and if you do it, do it at your own risk because I
am in no way an expert :)
I started slowly isolating each group of (what appears to be) duplicate
files and deleting all but the first one of each. I don't know if this is
necessary, it just made sense to me. I let them sit in my recycle bin for a
while, tried the internet and opened each office program (as it seems all my
installer files are for office programs) to make sure they still worked and
then deleted them. I had close to 8 gigs of .msp files and I am down to just
under 4 now with no problems. The only issue I have had is that the
installer starts when I start some programs now when it didn't before. It's
annoying because it slows things down a bit but hasn't made anything stop
working for me ....yet. I have been doing this for about a month. I am not
using media center I run XP Pro.
Good luck!
Also, here is a great utility for easily seeing what is on your hard drive:
http://windirstat.sourceforge.net I have had no problems with it.

Windows is consuming over 50GB of my hard drive space, and yet I can't come.
up with anywhere near that amount when looking at the detail of all folders
and files (including hidden ones) that I can see.
Can their be some huge files or folders that are not visible through Windows
Explorer?
One concern is that every time I shut down, Windows tries to download
several updates, but it seems they never load...as I can shut down again, and
it starts downloading the same number of updates.
Any suggestions how I can find out what's consuming so much of my drive?
