Re: LSASS is taking 100% cpu.

There are probably betters newsgroups to post this question to get more/better help, this one is really for Media Center specific problems; a general group for whatever OS you have would be a better option.

There are several worm/spyware associated with lsass.exe -- are you absolutely positive that your spyware/virus/malware software is up to date and you have run a deep scan to verify you are not infected?

lsass.exe is taking 100% cpu usage... I KNOW it is NOT the sasser virus. My
computer will not boot into safe mode. it boots into safe (with the f8 key)
but once it boots to the login it sits for a few (15-20) seconds and then
reboots. In the regular mode it lets me login (if i do it fast enough) and
then just slows to a halt (100% lsass) PLEASE HELP. reinstalling is NOT an
option because i have very specific data which needs to be recovered and i
cannot use the shell (recovery console) because it has registry and file
entries ALL OVER THE PLACE.
