OK, so it's not a hardware problem either. I swapped my tuner card with the
tuner card from my other Media Center PC (still running XP on that one) and
both cards work fine in the XP machine, but both create the same error
messages on the Vista Ultimate machine. So it's got to be something with
Vista.
I'm going to phone MS help, because I have no other idea what to do at this
point.

I don't know if you can test to see if the tuner works outside MCE? Have you.
got another application that will let you view the output of the tuner -
WinTV (if your tuner is Hauppauge) or Nero, for example?

Thanks for the suggestion, Joe. I did as you said both before and after a
reboot, but within seconds of me clearing the DRM folder, I get the same
error messages back, and new copies of the files that I just deleted from the
DRM folder come right back again.
I think I'm going to look for a hardware problem. Although Device Manager
tells me my tuner card "is working properly" and I checked the drivers and
they were up to date.
I don't know what else to do at this point.

I experienced all symptoms that you document in addition to others. I also
experienced error messages "digital cable device registration application
stopped working" and Media Player error " Media Player Sharing Service
stopped working".
I work with Vista Ultimate x86.
All of these issues were cleared for me when I cleared out the DRM folder
for windows. The folder is hidden ( open computer and select organize -
folder and search options) Under "view" tab uncheck "Hide protected
operating files" and select "show hidden files".
Then clean out /ProgramData/Microsoft/Windows/DRM.
It worked for me...... for what it's worth.

HELP!! All of a sudden, my Media Center PC which has been running
perfectly
for several months after I installed Vista Ulitmate, has started giving me
this error message:
Windows Media Center Receiver Service stopped working and was closed. A
problem caused the application to stop working correctly. Windows will
notify
you if a solution is available.
I looked it up in KB, and everything in there related to this error talks
about the problem coming from adding more than tuner to your machine.
Well
I didn't do that; I didn't do anything! When I go to watch TV, Media
Center
tells me the following:
Tuner Not Installed
Video cannot be displayed because no tuner hardware has been detected.
Please check that your tuner hardware is properly installed and plugged
in.
So here's what I've done:
Checked to make sure the coax cable is still plugged in from the wall to
the
back of the PC; installed a hot fix sent to me by MS from the KB article I
read; checked in Problem Reports and Solutions in the Control Panel, but
found no suggested solutions to this problem.
I don't know what to do next short of writing this and calling MS tech
support. Anybody have any ideas? Thanks.
