Re: Caan't get into Safe Mode

Finally managed to sort out the issue!!
Pressing F2 took me to the safe mode screen. My USB keyboard didn't work so
bought a PS2 keyboard to select the 'Safe Mode with Command Prompt' option.
While booting in safe mode the startup got stuck while loading some
agp***.sys file, after unsuccessfully trying to load a few times but with the
same result, I pressed ESC and then ENTER while the startup was stuck at
agp***.sys file. It worked!! The safe mode came up with the command prompt.
I entered 'control.exe' to bring up the control panel, I then restored the
changes I had made to the memory usage (which had resulted in this error in
the first place), saved, rebooted and windows loaded normally.
Thanks for everyones help. I found this newsgroup really useful for tips and
hence am making sure that I update this post with the resolution to help
others.

Thanks Gene..
I have now managed to get to the BIOS and change the setting to boot from
the recovery CD but when trying to reboot from this CD I get a screen with
the option of either going for a full recovery (asking me to press 'F') or a
standard recovery (asking me to press 'R'). The problem I am facing is that
pressing the keys on the keyboard makes no change to the screen...and it
remains static.....I feel my keyboard is not being recognized though I had
used it correctly for changing the BIOS settings!
How can I select the option 'R' if my keyboard is not being recognized?
Can you please help.
Thanks in advance.

Tell your computer to boot from a CD before the hard drive (and if
there's no CD it goes on to the hard drive).
Here's how:
Go into the CMOS setup. This is a slang term for the motherboard's BIOS
(firmware) setup.
To do this, press a specified key while the POST (power on self test)
screen is still visible - this is while you're executing the BIOS and
before Windows starts to boot.
There should be a message on screen at this time saying something like
"Press F2 to enter setup".
Many computers use F2, many use Delete. Other keys are possible...
Then you need to navigate through the setup screens to find something
with a name reminiscent of "Boot Order". Enable the CD drive and move
it to first place.

Yes, I do have the recovery CD but it makes no difference when I try and boot
with the CD in. Can I somehow force it to boot from the CD?

If you could enter the Safe mode then your problem could have been
solved.But most unfortunately you can't.
Another option is to use the Recovery CD.Do you have that?

I am getting the following error msg when trying to start my Windows XP
Media Center PC. I am unable to get into safe mode or to the system
recovery console, can someone please advise as to how to get to the safe
mode...pressing F8 is not doing anything at all and I do not have the OS CD
to get into the recovery console. The OS was pre-installed on my PC when I
bought it.
This started after I increased the page size in the control panel and
rebooted.
I need to login in safe mode and undo the changes but can't get into safe
mode at all. PLEASE HELP.
The error msg I am getting is:
Windows cannot create a temporary profile directory. This may be caused by
insufficient security rights. If this problem persists, contact your
network administrator.
DETAIL: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested
sequence.
If I click on OK, I get the next screen:
"Windows cannot load the user's profile but has logged you on with the
default profile for the system"
DETAIL: Insufficient system resources exist to complete the requested
service.
