Re: Media Player plays way too fast

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Hi Curious,

I have MCE 2002. I've tried updating the drivers, running the checkup
utilities, Microsoft updates, ect., but all media players play way too fast.
After two or three restarts, the media players work fine, but soon revert
back to the super fast playback with no sound. It can't be faulty drivers
since it wouldn't work even after restarting. What could possibly be causing
this???

If on MCE2005 use the following utility to be sure that you have an MCE
compatible decoder set as primary.

The Nvidia $20 decoder is the most recommended decoder for MCE2005 systems
having all brands of graphic cards including Nvidia, ATI and others.

Hi AcornATL,

Thanks for writing in. We share the same frustration over this since I
haven't found out what the problem is. I'm going to try Microsoft Updates
and also booting in Safe Mode which uses only the basic drivers. If that
doesn't help, I'm out of ideas. It might be a codec or driver issue, but
I
don't have the expertise to diagnose the problem to that extent. Nobody
else
seems to know either. The post by Curious to install Nvidia is a last
resort
since buying new software should not need to be done to solve this, and I
hate installing more programs than necessary. Let me know if you make any
progress. Thanks!

Hey viceman, I have the exact same problem with frustration that you
have. I
am not sure how long ago this started for you but my player started this
about a week and a half ago. Did you ever get a fix for this? I am about
Googled out and it seems that there isnt anyone that has responded to
your
many posts on different websites. Please let me know if you found a fix
for
this. Thanks man!

I have XP Media Center on a Dell XPS 400. Both media players (MP 11 &
Media
Center) have a recurring tendency to play videos and music 2-3 times
faster
than normal. After 1-2 restarts of the computer, it often returns to
normal,
but doesn't last long. Very soon both players start playing way too
fast.
There is also no audio when this happens. Adjusting the Hardware
Acceleration tab does nothing.

My pc has a two tuner ATI Radeon X600 256MB HyperMemory and Radeon X600
256MB HyperMemory Secondary video card with Hauppauge WinTV PVR PCII
(23xxx)
(Tuner 1) and (Tuner 2) sound card. I ran the Windows XP Video Decoder
Checkup Utility. The only MPEG2 decoder that appeared on the list was
Cyberlink Video/SP Decoder Dell 5.3, Decoder File Name CLVSD.ax,
Decoder
Version 6.0.0.818, MCE Compatable (green check mark), Preferred Decoder
(green check mark). I clicked on the "Check for Update..." button, but
it
took me to a website
(http://www.cyberlink.com/winxp_plugin/2007/enu/wmp.jsp)
wanting to sell some DVD software. Nothing about codec updates. The
audio
and video codecs on my pc are:

Audio Compression codecs:
imaadp32.acm
msadp32.acm
msg711.acm
msgsm32.acm
tssoft32.acm
msg723.acm
Windows Media Audio
Sipro Lab Telecom Audio Codec
Indeo® audio software
fraunhofer IIS MPEG Layer-3 Codec
Messenger Audio Codec
Microsoft PCM Converter

Video Compression Codecs
DivX 6.7.0 Codec
iccivid.dll
Indeo® video 5.10
Indeo® video interactive R4.3 by Intel
Indeo® video R3.2 by Intel
iyuv_32.dll
Ivcodec2.dll
msh261
msh263
msrle32.dll
msvidc32.dll

Anyone have any ideas? This is so frustrating!
