Re: WMC on Vista but can't see video on my admin profile but other admin profile works fine

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Ok if you found no differences between you and your wife's Media Center settings.
Then I suggest that you then check for differences between you and your Wife's display settings using display properties.
And if they are the same then check for differences in your codec/decoder settings using the following utility.

I can see those settings but I don't see where it allows me to check the following " Apparently there are differences in one of the following between your
User settings and your wifes.
Display
MC
Services
Codec setting default for MC"

It seems very strange to me that I can't view any video (makes now difference if it is live or recorded) regardless of the source (email attachment, TV, DVD etc) yet on the same machine my wifes desktop has no problems.

I appreciate all advice given.
Thanks

I am sorry if it was not clear that you should at both you and your wife's settings for each of the items in the list I provided.
For example compare you MC(Media Center) TV settings

I have attached an earlier thread (see below) regarding this problem but I have since discovered that although sometimes I can get WMC or Windows Media Player to work (view video not just hear audio) on my profile (set as Admin) it works fine when I switch to my wife's profile (also Admin) without rebooting, however if I switch back to my profile neither WMC nor WMP will show video but as soon as I go to her profile both work fine. Any help is greatly appreciated

I just tried that and I still have the same problem. I did notice that I
also can't view .wmv files in Windows Media Player. Could it be a codec
issue?

Try getting the latest driver directly from HP or Hauppauge websites?

Sorry for the long time delay. I tried both new video driver (now the
most current version 2/25/08) and uninstalled the Hauppauge, which Vista
then reinstalled after a reboot, but I still get the same problem as
before . I even tried a newer Hauppauge driver than comes with Vista.
Any other suggestions that I can try?
Thanks again for your ideas

Uninstall Hauppauge then reboot and let it reinstall.

No the unit came preloaded with a HP install "custom" install of Vista.
No separate CD's

I have a fairly new HP desktop running Vista Home Premium. WMC worked
fine but on several occasions I couldn't see video, it didn't matter
if it was recorded or live or if I switched to Win Media player I
could hear the audio but couldn't see the video. I could clear the
problem with a reboot but now I can't get it to work regardless of
rebooting. Any ideas would be appreciated.
Thanks

video card is Hauppauge WinTV HER-1800 (Model 78xxx, Combo ATSC/AM)
display adapter is ATI Radeon HD 2600 PRO
