Yes, they'd still have a problem. They would have to use the set top box remote to change channels for Live TV, or if they just wanted to record something on the fly.

Thanks Nigel, I always wondered if you could do the setup with the IR stuff in place, then remove it.

Would they still have a problem, if they don't care about scheduled recordings (as the OP stated)?

You get an error complaining that Media Center couldn't change channels & as MC 'knows' what channel
it has changed to this would mean that you would only be able to record a show by actually hitting
the record button as MC would 'think' that it was on the wrong channel & thus would start a
scheduled recording.
