Are you running Vista?
Zone Alarm is known to cause problems with Vista.

I am using Zone Alarm security suite. but have been using if for well over 3
years and never had a problem. I tried accessing my secondary drive that
also has movies today and explorer is doing the same thing with that drive.
Folder opens, explorer goes to about 50% cpu, close and open a second time,
shoots up to 99% and locks up.
It only appears to be happening with folders that have over 80+gigs in them
as all other folders open and close fine. This is really strange....

What anti-virus application or security suite is installed? There are some
that cause a myriad of problems which do not appear immediately.
