RE: Help me understand media extenders and windows home servers?

Oh, where can I begin. I have 2 HP Media Center Edition computers (Windows
XP 2005 Media Center). I am able to watch tv on my computers via a tv tuner
built into my HP computer and connected to my cable. I am able to record tv
programs and watch them later and/or burn them to a dvd that will play them
on my dvd players hooked up to other tvs. I am not going into great detail
because there are other components that come into play, for instance, dvd
burner, software, hardware (computer must have a tv tuner either built in or
an external one--mine are built in)and a high-speed ISP. I am able to
wirelessly send pictures, music and videos to another tv via a media center
extender--mine is an XBox extender. There are others, however. My XBox is
part of my home network via a game adapter. Been doing this for several
years, so my software/hardware is not state-of-the-art. I advise you to
read, read, read. The technology for this has grown up considerably. Also,
my computers are like any other out there today. I use the internet, I use
Microsoft Office for work projects. I listen to internet music. I webcam
with my daughters. I take digital pictures, download them and do other fun
projects with them. All I have told you is what you can do with Media
Center. Currently, I'm researching for another computer that has Vista so
that I will have state-of-the-art. In other words, I am having a ball with
Media Center. The more current the hardware and software, the more fun to be
had. I wish I could simplify all of this for you, but there is so much to it
that it is impossible for me to do so.
As far as the HP Home media server is concerned, it interests me, too. But,
for now, you can see I'm doing without it for the time being.

Having said that... I'm trying to wrap my head around
all the dizzying options now days.

One thing that does interest me is somehow using my C
as a TV "recorder".... so can watch programs at later
date.

I was reading abt this device.. an HP windows home
server but am not seeing what features it gives me. se

Does this unit actually have TV tuners in it and can be
hooked up to a TV to watch the programming? Can it be
used as an "only" PC or must it be used in conjunction
with other PCs on a network?

and... what exactly do "media centers" connected to my
TV give me the ability to do?

Bottom line...can someone give me a laymen's education
on how to buying "system" vs just a "computer?
Something that gives me a "future"?
