I don't know if it qualifies as a 'different OS'. The computer was
originally MSDOS but the store installed XP Pro Home Edition. This was
updated/upgraded by the IT people at work - done for all computers used
there (I have since changed employers). It worked fine until about a month
ago, when I started getting the alerts about it not being genuine Microsoft -
which is not actually the case; it is genuine but MS has blocked it. Fine.
Now all I want is the for the CD - which I paid good money for - to work. Not
much to ask really. I'm also confused as to why I get a failure for Windows
but a pass for Word.

Thanks for the reply. There was no prompt to press F6 (I followed all the
prompts given - but I suppose it could have flashed in amongst the various
'loading file xyz' messages along the bottom of the blue screen.

I don't know if it is a SATA hard drive (my machine is a Compaq Presario
v3000) but there is no floppy hard drive - just CD/DVD. I wouldn't know a
motherboard from a bar of soap and never, as far as I'm aware, had a
motherboard driver CD.

SATA drivers can be found on the Motherboard Driver CD. You also must
have a
Floppy drive in the computer, I think a USB floppy drive works OK. (The
floppy must be seen as A:)

On the Motherboard Driver CD, you should find a Bootdrv folder with a
program called Menu.exe. Menu.exe creates the floppy that you need at F6.

What is the solution for this? I should add that I went out and paid

the nose for a new XP Pro, but it won't install. First it gives a

passed.
Pretty
peeved that a previously fine system suddenly becomes 'not genuine'

the purchased XP Pro (not cheap!) - which the shop won't replace or
refund -
didn't fix the issue. Now what do I do?
