since we're in the XP Media Center newsgroup it may be assumed that it's XP -
I don't have the CD...I was hoping there was a fix that could be downloaded
I can't get to the BIOS because it will not boot up past the screen that
tries to take it into safemode - when you select the safemode options (any of
them) it tries to boot but ends up back on the same screen with the same
options I began with.

Are we to assume this is a Windows Media Center problem (if so, XP or a.
Vista variant) or should we guess the OS?
To get to the recovery console, you need to boot from the OS CD. Are you
saying the system won't boot even from the CD?
Why can't you get to the BIOS?

norton antivirus stated 2 items were affecting the computer's status: (1)
check for virus protection upgrades and (2) run full system scan;
he chose the fix now option and now the os will not boot up
I was able to retrieve the error message:
unmountable_boot_volume
I cannot access the bios to turn off the caching or shadowing as it
suggested.
I researched and found an article on the error message but it will not let
me access the Recovery Console to enter the command for the recovery
process.
