IIS is not included in the Home version of Windows XP, so I'd recommend you
get a Pro version of Windows XP (preferably one with SP2 slipstreamed into
it, so you don't mix file versions with older versions of Windows XP) and
try pointing it toward the i386 directory of that..
That should do the trick

Thanks for the insights... However, I tried doing the install via the
methods
described, both using add remove programs/windows components.... then
later
going in and changing the regedit method.
Both times, the same results. It found the c:\I386 folder but then said
it
couldn't copy the file(s) named (example staxmem.dl_)
When I clicked on "browse" the file showed up, but it says it can't copy
it.
BTW: when I check the IIS box when choosing it in the add/remove windows
components, the box is "greyed out" with the check mark in it.
It wants me to put in the disk, that I didn't receive with the computer.
I have an XP Home disk from another computer, but not an xP pro disk.
Any thoughts.
Thanks again.

While Dell did not supply any disks, OEM installs generally contain a
folder
that contain most of the contents of the installation disk(s). Go to
Add/Remove Programs, Windows Components and install IIS from there. You
should not need the disks. If Windows can't find the necessary files,
look
for a folder on your hard disk called I386. Then click Start, Run and
enter REGEDIT Go to:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows NT\CurrentVersion
Look in the right pane for the SourcePath value. Modify it to point to
the
actual location of the I386 folder, C:\I386 for example. You should also
update the SoucePath value in:
HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Setup
Then try to install IIS again.

Although my computer is only one year old, it appears to have come with
an
older version of MCE installed, 2002 SP2.
I'm trying to install IIS from the microsoft site, as Dell did not
include
any discs with the computer.
MY QUESTION is ... Can I download IIS 6 or IIS 7 with MCE 2002 SP2.
Or
do
I need a different version.
QUESTION 2: I'm assuming that if I try to update to MCE 2005, It will
require a total reinstall of everything on my computer... which I am
not
too
interested in doing, for obvious reasons.
Thanks in advance for your insights.
