I am running XP Media Center Edition OS on a top of the line Sony desktop
with RCA inputs. I have tried Moviemaker and Click to DVD. My Sony has a
remote control - I assume that is what you are talking about. Sony has
contacted me with a list of things to do including shutting down the firewall
along with a bunch of wierd stuff. I haven't had a chance to try these yet.
But will soon.
Thank for your input.

PS I don't think Microsoft has any support people, just sales people,
marketing, and programmers. I just upgraded to MS Office Pro 2007 which
included Microsoft Accounting 2007 which I believe is free according to their
website. They ought to pay users for all the ads in this software.

Just to clarify, is your system running Windows Media Center as an OS? If.
you have Media Center Edition (and the necessary hardware built in), you
should be able to connect the VCR, start it, and run through the signal
setup to find the VCR. You will need to have a Media Center remote receiver
connected to the laptop or the only signal it will detect is a coax/antenna
signal. If your system did not come with Media Center (or the
remote/receiver/emitter kit), then ignore that suggestion.
Have you tried using Windows Movie Maker? It can capture video, I have used
it with a Firewire connection for a digital camera, but I believe it also
will work with the RCA inputs. This assumes your laptop has a capture card
onboard.

BTW, this isn't really an "official" Microsoft support site, this is a user
forum, so the vast majority of people here are just other users. There may
be people who work for MS that monitor this board, but not in an official
capacity.

Does anyone know how I can import analog videos from VHS tapes and burn
them
into DVDs (for typical DVD player,DVD5, playback) on the subject PC ?
It has RCA audio and video inputs on it but but the software Sony provided
doesn't "see" these inputs. I did a help lookup in the Sony software and
it
indicated this feature was in Microsoft Media Edition (2005) but I cannot
find this feature. The Sony has an MPEG2 encoder on board.
If someone from Microsoft answers this PLEASE give me a link to a download
patch or something tangable not just lip service. I want a solution not an
excuse. I have been using Microsoft products since the beginning and
supported them for years and have hacked many a registry to get software
to
work, both Microsoft and many so called Windows compliant programs. PLEASE
HELP !!!
Sony has been little help in addressing this.
