Re: Unable to receive sound from Analog Cable TV

Two days ago, I spent 5 + hours with HP trying to receive the live tv sound
in WMC, all to no avail . . . all audio and video on the computer works fine
(including Windows Media Player) . . . am even able to use QuickPlay for Live
TV and the sound comes through fine. One other quirk that I noticed was that
when starting up Windows Media Center, I do not hear the startup jingle.
This problem just surfaced one week ago, after I performed a windows media
center new setup from a cable box digital connection to a direct cable analog
connection. Also, at one point, I was able to get live tv via the digital
antenna . . . now the reception is a non-starter.
Also did a sys file checkerand received the following info: "Windows
Resource Protection found corrupt file but was unable to fix some of them.
Details are included in the CBS.Log windir\Logs|CBS\CBS.log." Btw, I've done
and re-done the setup in WMC, but the problem (lack of sound) has not been
resolved. Additionally, I downloaded and installed the driver referenced by
luckylucky, but still no sound.
My best guess is that I have corrupt or missing codecs or there is a
corruption in the Media Center Software. I'd love to uninstall and reinstall
WMC, but that is not an option as WMC came preloaded as part of the operating
system.
Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks JW, it turns out that my card do not have a MPEG2 encoder..
I had to download a demo version from
http://www.mainconcept.com/site/index.php?id=17773
to finally get windows vista and my tuner to detect the
analog cable tv signal. Thanks for the help guys.

Are you sure that the analog tuner on your new card has an MPEG2 encoder
chip on onboard and that the care has MC compatible drivers for the analog
tuner? I ask this since some Pinnacle dual/hybrid tuner cards with HDTV
support only support the HD tuner on the card in MC>

Thanks jolt, would the manual option involved using the guide list?
On the start screen, scroll to Tasks, click settings, click TV, click
Guide,
and then click Set Up Guide Listings.
I believed I tried that but It did not work.
If you have a chance, can you explain the details involved in the manual
option..
I am not exactly sure what the manual options entails.
thanks

You'll need to run the tuner set up using the manual option. The registry
has entries from setting up the digital tuner now you need to manually
setup
for analog cable.
