Re: A Quick check NEW HOME SERVER and MCE XP

Tech-Archive recommends: Fix windows errors by optimizing your registry

Sorry for the confusion, the Linksys extenders are the only thing connected
to the wireless routers (Barbara Bowen's original configuration). The MCE
WKSs are on the the main router ethernet (100 Megabit) segment and I plan on
plugging into an empty port on the main router for the new WHS. I need a
backup of my files very badly as I am losing data drives due to heavy power
failures in our area of the country.

Is the non backup of recorded TV file ,the "digital rights" thing again ?

Thanks for your reply !

Yes, you can use WHS in this environment. However, WHS will not backup the
Recorded TV content on the MCE PC's. This is by design and won't be changed
anytime soon. But, your Windows Home Server machine must have a hardwired
LAN connection. While wireless connections will work with the underlying
Windows Server 2003, the WHS bits require a hardwired LAN connection.

And yes, it operates in a standard workgroup environment, not a domain.

Can I run the NEW HOME SERVER MS Product with 3 MCE 2005 XP WKS (2 MCEs
are
runing a LINKSYS extenders [wireless subrouters ,one on "a" and one on
"g"
protocals]) using one Netgrear buisness Router segment (FireWALL fully on)
?

I assume the HOME server product works in a WORKGROUP DOMAIN structure
not
a sttandard Windows Domain.

No !!! I will never go to Vista because I like the linksys extenders for
the
KIDS and I do not want the kids to have a "game" Xbox.

I have no idea how to handle the HDTV coming down the Road !

Any comments would be greatly appeciated!
