Re: Can not enable file sharing on this computer

Try starting the Server service manually.... Start-All
Programs-Accessories-Administrative Tools- open Services, look for "Server"
and check the status. Startup type should be Automatic, if not double click
Server and change the startup option. Click on "Start the service" from the
menu to start it manually.

Did you enable the File and Printer sharing service in Networking?

Right-Click Properties on your network interface card (Network Connections).
On the General tab verify that 'File and Printer Sharing for Microsoft
Networks' is installed and enabled (checked on). If not, install it from the
menu there.

Do you have any security software that could be actively blocking file
sharing? Firewalls, internet security suites or other security software?

Yes, I can connect to the internet OK and Yes I have run the network setup
wiz. I have a workgroup in place and as stated the laptop works well on
the
network. The network is not the problem. This laptop will not let me
enable
file sharing. When I try, i get a popup saying, (an error occured while
trying to share My Documents.
the
server service is not started. the shared resource was not created at
this
time.)

I have 4 conputers on a home network all working fine. All have printer
sharing, and communication between all 4 computers is fine. Also able
to
share files amoug 3 computers.
Except one laptop can not enable file sharing. It is Toshiba Satellite,
WXPMCESP2v2002
When I attempt to enable file sharing on a folder, popup box appears
saying, (SHARING)( an error occured while trying to share My Documents.
the
server service is not started. the shared resource was not created at
this
time.)
I don't think it's a network problem, I'm just missing something on
this
laptop.
How do I enable file sharing on this laptop?

What is the OS on the Toshiba Satellite?
Sorry,I see you gave it in what I thought was a model number.

Does it connect to the Internet OK?

Have you run the network setup wizard?
Control Panel > Network Setup Wizard.

And lastly, you might need the Window XP MCE installation Disk(s).
