Re: Xbox360+laptop PC extender issue?

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

You don't think the Xbox 360 is a computer?

It is very much a computer. Albeit a gaming computer.

It also has a standard Ethernet port.

On a RJ-45 (Ethernet) connector.
Pin1 and Pin 2 are the transmit pair
Pin 3 and Pin 6 are the Receive pair.

If you connect transmit to transmit and receive to receive, you do not have
communication.
For two devices to talk to each other, one must transmit while the other
receives.

In other words, transmit connects to receive.
In order for Computer to Computer you have to have a cross over cable that
switches the transmit and receive on opposite ends of the cable.

No.. This isn't a second computer, but an xbox360. There was also another
topic here regarding using the ethernet cable between the two to create a
connection just to make sure things were working alright. Unfortunately, I
didn't have success with that either.

Wrong Cable.

A direct connect computer to computer would require a Crossover cable.
The system is supposed to connect through a hub or switch or router.

I also tried to directly connect an ethernet cable from my laptop to the
xbox360, and the same error came up. What's wrong?

Hey, I just noticed the extender feature when I had both my laptop and
xbox360 on. However, when I try to set things up, the Media Center
contacting
screen comes up, then it says "The xbox 360 has experienced a failure
and
was
disconnected from the Media Center based PC. Would you like to
reconnect?" It
keeps saying this, even if I try reconnecting.

My firewall is one of the ones already set up for an extender, so I'm
not
really sure what the problem is. Any ideas?
