Re: MCE 2005 Xbox 360 Extender PC Setup Cannot find Xbox 360 on Networ

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

No my IPs are 1.2.3.x
i found it odd that it sent to 0.0.0.0, i would have expected a
broadcast address.
But what i did find by following your instructions is this.....
initially when i created the new acct (Test) i could not connect (via
remote desktop), it said it could 'not connect me due to account
restrictions' on the remote machine.
When i added a password to the new Test account, it was then able to
connect without a problem. Adding Test to the Admin group did not
help.
This leads me to believe that the 360 uses account MCX1 with no
password, right?
And if this is correct, then how do i allow users to log in with no
password? I cannot seem to find this setting anywhere.

Thanks again, looking forward to your response.

If you do have an IP address (and 0.0.0.0 was just a placeholder/not
your
real IP address), please try the following:
1) Create a new user account on your Media Center PC (Start > Control
Panels
User Accounts)
2) From your second PC, launch the Remote Desktop Connection
application,
type the name of your Media Center PC, click Options >>, and type in
the
user name and password for the user you created in step 1

Does login succeed? If not, do you have any applications or utilities
installed on your Media Center PC related to login? (e.g. fingerprint
reader
software or other biometric login software)

Yes that is the exact mesage i get and some of the time but other
times
it says
"no Media center pc found
The xbox 360 cannot connect to the media center pc. A connection
between the xbox 360 and the pc is required. Make sure the media
center
pc is turned on and connected to the network. For more information go
to
the media center pc and open the media center extender help."

then it will continue to cycle through that process (black
connectiing
screen blue session terminated screen)

For instance tonight i just ran the setup and the first cycle i got
the
session terminated and the second time i got no media center
connected
the third and foutrh time said session terminated

Thanks again for your help getting this solved.

What is the specific text on the blue screen on your Xbox that says
it
can't
connect to the PC? Is it the below?
"Another user or application on the Windows Media Center based PC
has
disconnected this device. Would you like to reconnect?"

No, i have uninstalled Zone Alarm, and do not have any other AV or
AS
software and windows firewall is disabled.
What i do know is that the packets are getting through to my XP
machine
and it will make a connection, but it gets terminated immediately
But i do not know where to look any more than i already have.

The 360 will talk to the PC, but after it verifies the 8 digit
code,
something is causing the 360 to lose its connection.
The user is created, and it is in the proper groups, but it will
not
maintain a connection with the PC.

Ok so here is what i have now......
I have a Vista machine from which i can connect to my XP box
*(which
has my media files i want acces from my 360) with remote desktop.
I was able to set up the connection from the 360 to the vista
machine
with media center with no problems. I tried to get the 360 to
stream
files from the vista machine which has mapped folders to the xp
machine
that contain the media files, but that did not seem to work.

So i still cannot get the 360 to connect to the XP machine, if
this
info helps anyone point out a solution, i'd be very appreciatave.

At this point, i'd just be happy being able to get the 360 to
just
play
the music, i have no need for the TV part.

Thanks

--------------
I was using Zone Alarm, but it is uninstalled, i have tried with
windows FW on and off with the same result each time
Windows firewall is currently disabled
The only service i turned off was uPnP and it was re enabled,
which
i
really don't understand, but it works.
I will try remote desktop next time i get a chance to work on
this,
i
have never used remote desktop, so i will play around with that.

Thanks

Few additional questions:
- Which firewall software/antivirus software did you have on your
PC?
Did
you disable it or uninstall it?
- Do you still have the Windows Firewall enabled?
- Have you disabled any services other than UPnP? If so, have you
re-enabled all of them?
- Are you able to connect to this PC using Remote Desktop from a
second
PC?

Anyone have any more ideas?
I noticed one post said a similar problem was fixed by
downloading
a
file called xbox360full.exe, i can't find this file, so if
someone
can
point me to it, I'd like to try.

Also, it's odd to me that my problem is similar to many others
with
the
exception that most people can get their music and pics to work,
but
i
can't even get that much.
That was about 50% of the reason to buy this system, and its
been
5
days now i am not getting anywhere.

Thanks in advance for your suggestions

Among my countless hours of testing, and troubleshooting, i did
try
the
direct connect method, but ended up with the same result, so i
am
certain that the router is not the problem.

But i am more than anxious to try anything else you think may
help

thanks

Try directly connecting your PC to your Xbox 360 using an
Ethernet
cable
(completely bypassing your router) to identify/eliminate your
router
as
the
source of the problem. Note that the Xbox 360 will auto-sense,
so
a
straight-through Ethernet cable is fine (no need for a
cross-over
cable).

Also, check the Application, System, Media Center, and Security
Event
Viewer
logs (right click My Computer --> Manage) for any errors
corresponding to
the time that you attempted to connect and saw this behavior.

OK, lots of details here.
My problem is that i cannot get my 360 to stream music and pics
from
my
xp pc.

Details
Qwest dsl connected to:
netgear router wgr614v5 with firmware V1.0.9_1.0.6
{winxp mc2005 with rollup2, vista, vonage, xbox360 connected to
router}

i downloaded the software at xbox.com/pcsetup and initially it
would run up to the point where i put in the 8 digit code and

then it said it can't find the 360.
I went through all the motions of firewall, AV, AS, etc, i now
have none of those installed or activated on my machine.
on the xbox, i can connect to the vista machine, but it will
not
see or stream anything from the XP one.

Next i downloaded a network sniffer, and found that the 360 was
trying to talk via port 1900 and my pc was sending port 1900
packets to a loop-back adapter (127.x.x.x address), so i
disabled uPnP as i remembered it being set to port 1900 in
windows firewall.

This allowed me to get the 8 digit code verified

Now since reinstating that service, i do not get hung there on
subsequent tries

But my new problem is that after it verifies the 8 digit code,
the xbox will go to a black screen where it says its trying to
connect, then go to a blue screen saying that it cannot connect
to the pc then it repeats the black screen/blue screen process.

At this point the netsniffer shows a repeated pattern of
traffic
xbox to ip0.0.0.0:3776
ip0.0.0.0:3776 to xbox
xbox to ip0.0.0.0:3776
xbox to pc
pc to xbox
pc to xbox
xbox to pc
xbox to 0.0.0.0:3774
xbox to 0.0.0.0:3774
xbox to pc
pc to xbox

that's when the blue screen comes up on the TV, and then it

keeps repeating

It looks like it will make the connection, and the following
will happen, but mostly it will just cycle through those steps

The xbox will show that an application or user terminated the
connection on the tv, and the media center extension manager
will show its connected, but if i click it it will freeze and
then show it disconnected

Something else that is weird, all of my favorites in my browser
and some other pc user login items were missing, almost like i
was logged into the computer as MCX1 instead of an
administrator...... i really don't know what to make of
that....

If someone knows what i can do to make this work, I'd be very
happy, i just bought the xbox the other day and have been
racking my self to come up with an answer. I even went so far
as
to call the 4my-xbox and they just told me to get a crossover
cable from best buy....
