I am assuming that you are accessing the WD drive via Windows XP or Vista on
the new computer.

Is it possible for you to temporarily install the WD drive in the computer
as an internal drive?

If you can you may be able to access the Users files using a Command Window.

Or if you could get a copy of Knoppix and boot from the Knoppix CD. Knoppix
is a Linux OS that runs on PC hardware and runs entirely from a CD. Knoppix
can access NTFS files.

No I can't install the old WD drive in the new computer. Tried it several ways. This motherboard has SATA and it doesn't seem to like IDE. The old drive will not boot. It will also not show up as a second drive for some reason. It works great as an external, I can get to everything except the "documents and settings" section where her files are located. I will try the the stuff you suggested and see. Thanks!

Have you checked the BIOS settings?

The IDE controller may be turned off if you only have SATA drives, However, DVD/CD drives are still IDE for the most part.

You may have to change the jumper setting on the drive. There are three positions on the back of the drive, Slave, Master and Cable select.

I would guess setting the drive as Slave might work if you plug the WD drive on the same cable that connects to your DVD/CD drive.
