disconnect the Acer and do a cold power off with only the Plasma
connected. go into tv settings and reconfigure and see if you can
sail through. the Acer is most likely not HDCP and that *may* be the
issue (altho I thought that you could configure with a non HDCP
display but only view in a degraded resolution).

if that doesn't work, I would think it is the BIOS.

Background:
I have a two week old HP m8100y desktop Media Center PC with an
internal
Hauppauge WinTV tuner card and an external ATI TV Wonder Digital Cable
Tuner
USB CableCard(TM) tuner. I have been using the internal tuner with
Media
Center to receive Over The Air (OTA) TV for the past week, but just
today
activated my cable TV, including a CableCard and HDTV.
However, the ATI device does not appear to work. When I use Media
Center to
"Activate Digital Cable" (in Tasks/Settings/TV/TV Signal/Activate
Digital
Cable), it reports:
"The upgrade of your security components was incomplete. You will not
be
able to watch or record premium or high definition content until the
upgrade
is successful."
If I use the Digital Tuner Diagnostics facility of Media Center, it
states
"Unavailable" next to all tests. However, the AT TV Wonder Digital
Cable
Tuner is detected properly by Windows, appears in Device Manager and
Network,
and everything appears to be OK in the device's Website. I followed the
instructions in the following document (under troubleshooting):

Everything appears to work fine. The Cable provider replaced the
CableCard,
and everything appears fine on their end. Their conclusion was that the
problem relates to this security component upgrade issue.
I called HP Technical Support, but they refused to support the product,
claiming that because it did not have "HP" on the label and was
external that
they did not support it. (I may call again during their normal business
hours)
My suspicion is that Vista is having a security issue with the
CableCard,
possibly because of how the system was built, or because I had to use
the HP
System Recovery tool to reinstall the OS when I first received it, or
because
I installed two internal hard drives.

The following forums contained the only reference to this error
anywhere on
the Internet that I could find. It looks like some people had to
reinstall
the OS to fix it, though in other instances perhaps it was a BIOS
problem
from the manufacturer.

Should I reinstall Vista using the HP recovery process, or perform a
clean,
setup-based install (not using the HP image)? Many thanks, I spent 6

All updates and patches are installed; ATI is running the latest
firmware
