Hey Guys - I found the solution to the screensaver not working with a
wireless mouse. My new laptop laser wireless 6000 comes with 90 days of free
support, so I logged a call. Microsoft has a patch - you need to download an
update called "Hardware HID non-user" or something close to that. In Vista,
search for windows update - this is an optional update. Download and install
and the problem goes away! Also, the article dealing with this can be found
on www.support.microsoft.com, article #911895. Let me know if this works for
you.
Finally!

May not be the most practical soltuion, but I've just been unplugging the.
wireless mouse adapter when it is not being used.

This is regular problem...most forums have reported it. There isnt a fix as
yet but acouple of ways around it
Have a read of this http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb;en-us;911895
On mine if I go to msconfig/startup and untick "ehtray" my screensaver will
work until I start the media centre 2005

Has anyone found a solution to this screensaver issue? I have the same
problem with my Microsoft wireless keyboard/mouse! When I unplug the USB
cable the screensaver activates.

Kudos to all!!! I can't tell you how relieved I was to find out that
my
Wireless 6000 Laser notebook mouse was preventing my screen saver from
turning on. I,too, had contacted Dell and Microsoft and both wanted to
charge a fee for software services. Fortunately, I did not have to
completely uninstall the mouse. All I had to do was unplug the
wireless
adapter. Who'd of thought!!!!! Thanks again to all!!!

I have the same problem. I just got this HP Media Center PC dual
processors
12/20/2005, over the next 3 1/3 weeks I installed all my personal
software
before updating the XP SP2 Pro with all the patches. I am using a
wireless
Microsoft explorer mouse and screensaver worked until about a week
ago after
I applied all the patches to the XP Pro sp2. At first my screensaver
stopped
working on my main account with Admin rights but worked on the Hp_
admin
account setup by HP. After a week or so trying to trace the problem
down I
decided to use the hp_admin account because I thought I might have
picked up
a bug on my main account and I wanted to scan my computer on a clean
account.
In using the hp_admin account for everyday uses I had to configure
some apps
like Spybot S&D to work with that account. Within 30 min or so my
screensaver
stopped working on all account. I THINK that this was caused by one
of the
patches I applied or some security setting I changed like security
audit. The
problem I am having is that all the documents explain in detail what
how
client and server environment act but very little detail for
standalone
direct connected to the internet pc should be setup. I am thinking
about
starting all over without changing any of the system default settings
and see
what happens unless someone has some suggestions how to uninstall all
the
patches and reset the default setting that my hp computer came with.

I also tried to let Microsoft know about the problem and was told
to write
them at One Microsoft Way Redmond, WA 98052-6399. My letter was
returned as
"NOT DELIVERABLE AS ADDRESSED". Microsoft says on their website
that:
"If you think you have found a bug in a Microsoft product, contact
our
Microsoft Product Support Services department.
(800) MICROSOFT (642-7676)

I am not impressed. There is no way to let Microsoft know about
this BUG!

Exact issue w/ MS wireless elite keyboard & mouse & Dell
Dimesion 4700c.
At least after hours and hours troubleshooting screensaver
issue at least it
is now isolated to the wireless, rather than other components.
Now,
hopefully a solution will emerage!

The only thing I can suggest is to contact Microsoft and tell
them they have
a bug in their wireless keyboard/mouse...
There may also be a setting in the mouse properties...
