Help! - I have the same problem with the same laptop.
I did try all different settings in the boot.ini file: 1) /NOEXECUTE=OPTIN /fastdetect
2) /NOPAE /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect
3) /MAXMEM=2000 /NOPAE /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect
4) /BURNMEMORY=2000 /NOPAE /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect
5) /3GB /NOPAE /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect
6) /noguiboot /NOPAE /noexecute=alwaysoff /fastdetect

nothing changes
The laptop works - but the screen is blank when 4 gig are installed

Suggestion 1: Don't install 4 GB

Suggestion 2: Make sure the extra memory is compatible with your computer.

Suggestion 3: If you have two SODIMMs of different brands or types, swap them - e.g., move the original to slot 2 and the new one to slot 1. That once solved a similar problem for me, anyway, so I'd say it's worth a try.

Hi,
I just recently bought new RAM for my work computer. I have an Acer Aspire 9410-4226, and I'm trying to upgrade it to 4 gigs. I checked in the manual and it shows that 4 gigs is the limit for my laptop. I bought Mushkin memory, 4GB PC2-5300 SODIMM and I can only get 2 gigs to work at a time. I have a dual boot setup on this computer with XP and Vista, XP being my most used. With the 4 gigs installed my computer will show a blank screen where I would normally have a menu to choose what OS to use. I can still maneuver through as I had done before by using the arrow keys, but I can't make it to the login screen in XP. Vista works fine. Please help me if you can. I would like to have all of the memory available because I will be doing 3D modeling.
Thank you,
Adam Higgins

Well, this is about as unrelated to Media Center as you can get :-)

IIRC, there's a setting somewhere in Windows (I assume that includes XP) that deals with how much memory to use.

So - boot to XP with 2 GB, find that setting, and tell Windows XP to use only 3 GB (I think that amount is safe - if not, use 2 GB).

Now shut down, reinstall the memory, and reboot to XP. If I'm right, you're home free. If not, sorry...

Note: I can't find it here, but this is a virtual machine, so I don't really have hardware access...

I also can't find it in Help. Maybe I'm wrong.

OK - here's what I can find. Try running "bootcfg /?" (without the quotes) from a command prompt, then try "bootcfg /Addsw /?". Look at the entry for /MM. maybe that's what you want. Or maybe it'll break your computer :-)

Look here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/108393/?FR=1

Don't use 12 MB, though ;-/

Here's the thing: your question intrigued me, so I spent way too much time on it. Lucky you :-)
