Unbelievable.
Someone mentioned to me that Vista is really sucking wind when it
comes to wireless stuff in response to a different issue I was having
(screen saver won't start unless an optional update is installed to
fix a wireless mouse and keyboard setup interfering with the startup).
Anyways, I get my updates to both my MCE system and Guide via a
Linksys (WUSB300N) wireless adapter, and while I've not had any
problems with the nightly updates, I've had lots of trouble with loss
of ability to remote into the MCE machine from my main machine (MCE
machine is set up out in the living room to a tube tv ;-).
Soooo, for fun, I pulled the adapter and whala, no more intermittent
popping or otherwise. Intermittent popping came back almost
immediately when I plugged it back in. So I guess I have to unplug it
to watch either Live or Recorded TV via MCE. What a pain.
Try a different adapter? This was the third I tried and the only one
of D-Link, or a variant of Linksys adapters that even picked up
reception (Using a D-Link wireless N router: Dir 625).

Hi, I am hoping someone can help me with this.
Running Vista Ultimate MC and things were fne. Without changing
anything, both live TV and Recorded TV have developed a skip in the
video with the sound making a poping noise then for a second it sounds
like they are talking under water is the best I can describe it.
Furthermore: If I go to a site like one of the cable news channels I
noticed that the text scrolling by on the bottom will skip almost
constantly. I thought it was the video card so I purchased a new one
and the same exact thing still happens. So I tried installing a sound
card (and disabled the on board sound via the BIOs etc.). No luck
here either.
The MB is an ASUS K8N socket 754 with a AMD 64 1.8Ghz processor and
1gb of ram.
Video card is a brand new:
EVGA 256-A8-N542-T2 GeForce 7600GS 256MB 128-bit GDDR2 AGP 4X/8X
Sound card is:
Creative Sound Blaster SB0570 Audigy SE 7.1 Channels PCI Interface
NOTE: When I make a recording of the news channel and port it over to
my other desktop (running another copy of Vista U, on-board sound
and older nivida video card) I don't get any of the above issues.
Watch the same recording on the media center machine and I do.
Any suggestions?
Thanks,
Markus
Your Video card is a good card and should not cause video problems. However
do you have the latest Video Driver installed.
The sound issue could be the Sound card drivers. Check if there is a later
driver on the card manufacturer's web site.
I would remove the Creative Sound Blaster sound card and enable the onboard
audio. Then check Asus for the latest MB drivers.
There are several K8N motherboards, be sure you have the correct model to
download the drivers.
