Re: how to stop Media Center from downloading guide ?

He said setup, as in configure, not reinstall. Lucky for you :-)

The setup is just the act of running the wizards where you tell MCE what you've got & what you want. Much easier (and less invasive) than a reinstallation.

Thanks Doug. I have MCE via Windows Vista Home Premium. I don't have a specific MCE installation disc. How do I reinstall MCE in this case?

Thanks,

Mark,

Don't use Settings, TV. Re-run the entire Media Center Setup without the TV Tuner installed. You can also clear out all of the settings using MCE Reset by MVP Mark Salloway. You'll still need to re-run the full MCE setup to use any MCE functions.

I tried this, but it won't let me start the setup. I go to "Settings / TV / Set up TV Signal..." and then I get a message: "Tuner Not Found". It seems I'm stuck in a loop. I just want to go back to the way it was before I ever installed/removed a TV tuner.

Any more ideas?

Thanks,
Mark

I think if you run the TV setup in MCE with no tuner, MCE will remove the Guide and any Tuner that is still setup.

Thanks. I tried this, but then when I was using WMC and finished watching a video I would get an application error message, saying some service wasn't working. I re-enabled this service, and that error message stopped coming up. Isn't there some way to inform WMC that I no longer have a TV tuner?

Thanks,
Mark

Click Start, Run and enter SERVICES.MSC Locate the Media Center Scheduler service and set it to Stopped and Disabled. If you're not using Media Center you can also stop and disable the other Media Center related services, as well.

Every day Windows Media Center puts an icon in my task tray and says it is downloading the guide. I no longer have a TV tuner, so don't need this guide. I did install a TV tuner for a while before, so I think that somehow turned on the option to download the guide. How can I tell it to not download the guide anymore?

BTW, I'm running Vista.

Thanks,
Mark
