Normally I do not shut down my HP Pavilion. I have Norton and Webroot's Spy Sweeper running in the early morning hours.

Every once in a while I click on Start> Shut Down, AFTER I have closed all programs except those on the systray.

The computer never shuts down or turns off. It sits for more than 30 minutes with the desktop staring back at me.

And guidance to help me understand this will be greatly appreciated.
