Sorry, this is an XP system, 5.1 build 2600.xpsp_sp2_gdr.070227-2254. A
restore point may indeed have been an option, but I have let this problem go
for a long time. It is not so much an issue for me, but for one of the other
users of this system. At this point who knows what mayhem the restore itself
would cause, if I could even go back that far. The problem has been hanging
around for months, I really doubt that I have a valid restore point prior to
the point in time that this all started, I seem to remember 3 weeks to a
month is about it for restore points, if I am not mistaken. So any options or
suggestions I would be greatly thankfull for.

Of the cuff, have you tried a restore point prior to when it all started
playing up!!!!

I have a number of problems with Media Center.
1. Can't play any recorded TV programs in Media Center, but I can play them
in Windows Media Player 11. Seem to start when I viewed a TV recording using
Media Player.
2. I can't setup a recording, I get schedular errors, it says to close Media
Center and restart, does no good. I can't even tell it to record a program I
am watching, schedular errors, close and restart ect. I can watch live TV no
problem. Windows schedular works for all the other house keeping I have setup
to run at various hours of the middle of the night on various days, just fine.
3. There are I don't know how many recordings 30 or 40 give or take, in the
recorded TV folder around 175 Gbytes worth of one series that I setup before
the thing went running off into the bushes, but Media center says that there
are no recordings, yet history shows almost 600 recorded programs, many of
which have been deleted.
4. It faithfully records this one program series, no problems.
5. I can't make any changes in setup that actually take effect. I change
things and save when I come back there the way they were before I made
changes.
6. Media Guide seems to work and be up to date and correct, clicking on a
program does take me to live TV but that is it.
I have downloaded all the recomended updates, rollups, bug fixes and who
knows what all else associated with Media Center, my Vid card and sound card,
windows is up to date. It still don't work as advertized, Media Center, and
has not in a long while.
Is there a simple way to remove all the components related to Media Center
and reinstall it all fresh, simply.
The computer is in all other respects really very stable and all my other
programing works very well.
Oh Its a Dell Dimension 9100 Pentium D Dual processor 3.0 Ghrtz, 4 Gigs
RAM, 320 Gbytes C: drive as a Raid 0 Array (two 160 GB drives) 320 Gbytes G:
Raid 0, Radeon x600 vid card driving a dell 17" LCD and a Dell 20" wide
screen. Sound card is a Sigma Tel. Two Epson Stylus Pro 4000 printes, a Epson
200 printer and Epson 4990 scanner, a small Zip drive. A whole host of
software that works well and cooperates. I-Tunes, Dragion Naturally Speeking,
Adobe CS2, Microsoft Works, Adobe Reader 8, two or three different CD and DVD
authoring programs. Who knows what all else, it all was there before the
Media Center started messing up and it all still works.
Thoughts anyone?
