As it stands right now there is no tuner that I've seen that stands out from
the others in a "big way" in picture quality, some are somewhat better then
others. A STB thru media center offers great recording options at the cost
of picture quality but until a pc card is sold with HD inputs or some other
"revolutionary" new design, a STB hookup will suffer HD downscaling and
analog quality lose.
There are MCE options like buying a new PC to get ATI's OCUR tuners, but I'm
waiting for Cable Card 2 tuners to arrive with mulity tune, bi-directional
capabiliyties and a promise to be compatable with Switched Digital Video,
before I'd cosider the investment. If you have premium HD channels that you
consider must have from a cable or satelite provider you should at least
consider use of their HD DVR in addition to MCE.
Until hardware options change IMO HD from OTA and analog cable for Media PC
content works well and keeps it simple.

Thanks. My main gripe after getting the digital/HD STB is that the
picture,
though clear and strong, has lost its sharpness. Edge detail takes a big
hit
-- I suppose because of signal converting. I was hoping one of these new
cards would alleviate the lack of sharpness when connected to the STB.
Any suggestions?

The Hauppauge HVR-1800 or Avermedia 780 IMHO are better choices if you
require a PCIe as the picture quality is about equal for any of the cards
and they are less expensive.

I've seen the website and read the reviews, just wanted to see if
anyone
other than a salesperson has seen/used one. It's supposed to provide
much
better picture quality -- rivaling a stand alone TV tuner.
