Re: Media Center 2005 reinstall

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Please be sure that you're not looking at System Properties, as that will read 2002, which is the version of the underlying OS. Go to Settings, General, About Media Center, Software Version to determine the version of MCE you're running. If it is indeed 2005, then there may be a setting in the Registry that is incorrect. See http://www.salloway.org.uk/MediaCenter/util/index.htm#ident for a utility to set this value to the correct number.

You can also check to http://www.salloway.org.uk/MediaCenter/2004/version.htm to determine what the setting should be for your installation, as well.

Hello,

I have an issue with a reinstall of XP Media Center 2005. To start some how
the registry got corrupted (I know how, but she still denies it!). I couldn't
get online, open up any of my files nothing.. So I decided to reformat my hdd
and reinstall everything. Upon completion of the install, (2005 is what I
have, and this is what was installed before) it says that it is MCE 2002. I
try to get all the updates, and they inform me for certain ones I need 2005.
I don't know what the deal is.

I tried to do the "Upgrade" by using the disk while logged into windows, now
I have some major issues. (I cannot remember the exact errors at the moment
as I am at work.) I do know that one of them was windows could not read ta
.NET Framework 2.0 file.

Should I try one more time to reinstall everything? or is there another
route I can try? I can't think of anythng else to do.

Thank you in advance for any help you may be able to give.

Eric
