Re: Album Art shows in WMP but not in XP MCE

Tech-Archive recommends: Repair Windows Errors & Optimize Windows Performance

Thanks John for the explanation, but for some of the more esoteric audio
books and albums, there doesn't appear to be album art or the album art is
incorrect (i.e. Billboard Hits CD's) ... I had to scour the net to find the
art .. "Find Album Info" just didn't work ..

MS should fix the issues, come up with a work around or someone should come
up with a utility for the import ..

Thanks again,

Jim

I've ripped all my music using itunes and added the album cover art to the
MP3. Now, supposedly WMP doesn't read the MP3 for art but expects a
"Folder.jpg" file. That doesn't seem to be accurate - I created the art for
one MP3 and added it to the MP3 in itunes. There is no other .jpg in the
directory. When I add the item to WMP, it displays the art - the art that
can only be found in the MP3 file .. any thoughts?

Now, moving along. After a great deal of effort, I have album art for every
album/audio book, etc. The art shows up in WMP (it works perfectly on
several machines as I move my external music drive around). On my MCE
machine, it also shows the cover art in WMP perfectly, however, within WMC,
many of the albums have no art. Any explanation? (FYI: in some cases, even
when there is a "Folder.jpg," (this also includes the large and small art
files) in a music directory, the album album for that music doesn't show)

Thanks in advance,

Jim

WMP does actually support reading embedded artwork in MP3 tracks (but apart
from possibly WMA not in any other formats). Hence why you are getting
artwork in WMP. You can see this by using the "Advanced Tag Editor" option
in WMP on an appropriate MP3 track.

However in MCE 2005 at least, I find that the only sure fire way to get MCE
to show artwork is to tell WMP to "Find Album Info" so that it then creates
a folder.jpg (and three other jpg files) for the album. When it does so it
registers them in a database that MCE appears to also use. I found when I
initially tried that simply putting a folder.jpg in the folder did not work
in MCE 2005, I had to 'register' the artwork by using the "Find Album Info"
option.

Note: I also rip my music using iTunes (in Apple Lossless format) and then
share them all with WMP (still in Apple Lossless format).

After doing "Find Album Info" I replace the poor quality (200x200 pixels)
files with high quality (600x600) copies from the iTunes Store (you simply
save the iTunes version using the EXACT same file name(s).

I have dozens of albums shared this way and the artwork works fine in MCE
and WMP.

Note: If you use AAC or Apple Lossless format instead of MP3, you need to
add a suitable directshow filter and also a plugin like WMPTSE to let WMP
read the MPEG4 meta tags (these plugins do not support embedded artwork).
