RE: Guide Will Not Download Anymore

Thanks Bill. I believe that is doing the same thing as renaming the EPG file
and restarting which creates a new EPG file & I had already tried that twice
now. In any case I tried it anyway and it didn't work. I'm about to give up
and try reinstalling the OS, probably tomorrow if I don't figure out
something else by then that works. I really don't know what else to do. I
hate the thought of having to reinstall everything. It will take days to
reload all of the software and all of the updates. Ugh!
Something related to the Guide not downloading I believe is that my internet
clock does not want to sync, although it will if I try several times. I have
to do it manually and then usually 5 or 6 attempts before it succesfully
syncs, and then only with time.windows.com. It never works with time.nist.gov
(I've tried 100 times at least). I keep getting mostly the error "An error
occurred getting the status of the last synchronization. The handle is
invalid."
Sometimes it says "the time sample was rejected because: Message was
recieved out of order" or "An error occured while windows was synchronizing
with time.windows.com. This operation returned because the timeout period
expired."

Try this, disable the go to the system clock and disable automatic
syncronize with the time server. Reboot and enter the system BIOS, Set the
time/date far into the future 2 years or more reboot. Let the Media Center
attempt to download the guide hopefully you will get an error indicating that
it could not download the guide. On my computer this caused the existing
guide to be completely removed. I restored the correct time and I was then
able to download guide successfully. If you haven't already tried it give it
a go.

I should have mentioned that I have media center 2005 and that I had not had
any problems downloading the guide before recently doing a clean install of
the OS a month or so ago. Even after the install it worked fine until I
downloaded all of the updates. I have added no new programs that I did not
have before. I have Norton Firewall that caused no problems ever before but I
tried turning it off several times just to be sure it's not the problem.
In the Event Viewer (Control Panel>Administrative Tools>Event
Viewer>Application) Beside all of the 'Media Center Scheduler' entries it
lists an 'Event' code 3 or sometimes 4, which I believe are both internet
connection errors.
I will be so greatful to anyone who can help figure this out. The Media
center is basically useless without the guide.

I reinstalled the OS on my computer a month or so ago, and at first
everything worked fine, I set up and downloaded the guide just fine but after
installing all of the available updates incl Media Center Rollup 2, the guide
will no longer download. If I try to re-setup the guide that doesn't work
either. It succesfully connects to the internet and then says "Status:
Downloading. This may take a few minutes..." but nothing more ever happens.
If even after an hour or more I decide to press cancel I get "A critical
Media Center process has unexpectedly failed. If problems persist, please
restart your machine and try again, or contact technical support. Code 3"
I've been searching for weeks how to fix it. I did find some common solutions
to this problem here:
"Troubleshooting suggestions for guide download errors in Media Center"
http://blogs.msdn.com/astebner/archive/2005/11/01/487997.aspx
But none of them worked for me. My clock is synched and I reinstalled NET
Framework 1 and then reinstalled Media Center Update Rollup 2, like it says
to try here: http://support.microsoft.com/kb/910905
But none of those worked and I've still got the same problem. I just don't
know what else to do.
