the file to public or mcx1 and changing any access rights but no luck.
I also tried converting one of the wmv into mpeg and now I can see and
play it but only the mpeg version. The thing is this file is on a
hardrive separate to my windows harddrive which means it can't be an
access rights issue.

I have ffdshow codec and nero 7 installed. So I may try removing nero
7. If that doesn't work I may have to convert any files I want to
watch on my big tv to mpeg which I don't want to do. So if anyone has
any idea how to fix this issue please let me know.

The xbox 360 cannot play AVI files. I'm not certain about WMVs but I
know for certain that it can't play AVIs because it doesn't have the
codecs to play them. Try looking at a product called Transcode360. You
install it on your Media Center/Vista PC and it decodes videos and
streams them as MPEG streams.
