I have the same, Nigel. Two ATI 550's installed in the Gateway 901X. No other drivers than what Vista installed, and they've worked flawlessly since the early beta days.

I've been toughing it out with my ATI Tuner card since the old beta days of
Vista (back in 2005). It's worked, so to speak, all throughout but it has
always had some problems.
1.) After I burn a DVD using Media Center, I will have to reboot before I
can watch TV again. This has remained true regardless of any ATI Driver
updates (currently 7.5) and any Media Center Windows Updates.
2.) Sometimes, and there is no consistent reason, the card will simply
decide that it wants to freeze and my TV shows won't record until I reboot.
Granted, it works most of the time, these problems are really frustrating.
My question to the group is this: Will this ATI card EVER work properly? Or
should I just give up on ATI and get a Hauppage card like I should have years
ago?
I have an ATI Theater 550 card in one of my MCE systems. It is connected to a digital satellite Set
Top Box via s-video & L/R phono for audio. It works absolutely fine in Vista (as it did in MCE
2005). I have installed no drivers as the card was just detected by Vista & the correct drivers
installed after the Vista installation was completed via Windows Update. There is also no problem
with burning a DVD.
You mention that you were beta testing Vista. Is this a clean, fresh installation of Vista or some
sort of upgrade? I would recommend a clen install. Also your problem has the feel of some hardware
incompatibility. Perhaps trying the card in another PCI slot will help?
