Re: Remote Desktop shuts down Media Center - fix?

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

right. it shuts down when you RDP in.
you can open it again but if you navigate to TV, it won't cooperate.

Thank you for replying, Barb.

At the moment I access the MCE 2005 PC from another PC, the MCE PC is just
"idling" at the main MCE screen. No media has been selected or played yet.

Like I wrote, I haven't sat at the MCE PC when I connect via RD but when I
close the RD session and go to the MCE PC it's displaying the login screen,
so I assume the current user on the MCE PC is logged out when RD takes over.

From RD I can re-run Media Center and it appears to work fine, with some
limitations that are handled with sensible error messages within Media Center
(e.g. no video playback allowed, etc.).

How can MCE provide for Remote Desktop access within its settings yet in
practice quit upon use of RD to access it? I mean, how clumsy!

Actually it's normal. It's annoying because it works in pictures and
music and other areas (but not in TV, etc.) but no matter what
screen you are in, when you try to access it over RDP, the
experience you describe is what you get.

When I use Remote Desktop to access a MCE2005 PC, the remote desktop opens up
and immediately displays an error message:

"Media Center has been shut down because it was running in a mode that is
not supported over a remote desktop connection. Please restart Media Center
to correct."

It's not a fatal problem; I can open Media Center again in the Remote
Desktop window, but I wonder if this is normal behavior or is there a fix to
clean it up?
