Changed the Video Quality to Bob and it does remove much of the blur. Maybe my eyes but I do think it's introduced an ever so slight grain effect but less of a concern than the blur. Cheers Buellpilot for the pointer.

I'll have to give this a try too. I put the occasional blur down to poor broadcast bit rates. The BBC is the best for picture quality. This shows when you compare the size of the recordings alongside those made on the commercial channels. I'm using an ATI Sapphire X1600 HDMI with the Hauppauge Nova-T 500 DVB-T tuners. I use the VGA connection as our TV HDMI is taken up with a HD Satellite receiver. I've tried various res settings (1024x768 & 1360x768) but not played with the ATI Catalyst since having a new machine with Vista. ATI have had issues with my graphics card. 7.3 had to be patched and 7.4 is a no no. Interesting reading. Cheers chaps :-)

Go to your ATI driver config, and select the video section.
Change it from auto to bob.
This part of the driver is all about deinterlacing.... I had
some quality problems where I would see trails, left behind
and when i set the deinterlace to bob it fixed it.

yes it does the same with recordings and videos from other sources
also when in the menu systemin media centre, when you use the mouse you get
the same sort of trailing/ bluring behind that, sort of leaving a smudge on
the screen!
