Thanks for the great advice. All my MCXs are wired. Think I'll run a video
from a alternate PC (simulated NAS) through router to MCE to MCXs and watch
network as you explained. Thanks again..

Ethernet switch (built into your router) each of these
switch ports can operate at 100Mbps full duplex, i.e.
your PC can transmit at 100Mbps while also receiving at

if the network cards are recent.

So data from the NAS will be received into the PC on a 100Mbps

network card to full duplex will be a good idea... just let auto

If your extenders are also wired to the switch they will also

so bandwidth just isn't a problem here, as streaming a standard
definition DVD will only take about 2/3Mbps and you have
100Mbps to each of your extenders.

To see how your network is performing open Task Manager
on the PC and select the network tab, then start viewing
a video on 1 extender and see what the network utilisation
goes upto, then start a 2nd video on the next extender and
review the network utilisation, you should see a step change,
then to the 3rd extender and again see the change.

You can now see that you will be using maybe 12-20Mbps
which means you are just ticking over.... :)

Of course if your extenders are wireless then it is a different
matter, as you will have a maximum bandwidth of 54Mbps
which is shared amongst the 3 extenders, and in reality that
54Mbps is actually only the equivalent of 24Mbps on a wired
network, so even in ideal conditions that is 24Mbps being
shared by/fought over by three extenders, so you will have
problems but the problem isn't between the NAS and PC but in
the wireless medium.

So the moral of the story.... wire those extenders....!!

I have MCE 2005 and 3 extenders which run great. If I add a NAS it seems

data would travel from the NAS to MCE PC then back through router to the
MCXs. How would this affect my MCX performance?
