No, it is in Start, All Programs, Accessories, System Tools, System Restore.
But since you already tried the repair install, system restore points prior
to that might not work. Worth a try though to see if it works.

So is that from the F8 menu? Because I tried that to no avail.

No, System Restore, puts your system back to the same state it was in at
a
particular time. A "repair" installation will fix many things, but not
all.
For example, if its a registry entry that's causing the problem, a repair
may, or may not overwrite it. It all depends on whether it was something
Windows normally puts there, or if it was 3rd party software.
System Restore will put the system back to the same state, with all
installed applications.

Use System Restore to go back to a point before you removed Google
Desktop.
That will get you back into your system. Then backup anything you
can't
afford to lose and try again.

My PC (XP SP2) has been acting up and due to an error message in
Outlook
(Office 2003) about Google desktop I decided to remove it (Google
Desktop)
in
the control panel. Well my PC locked up while removing Google
desktop
so
now
when I boot in safe mode or otherwise I have no system tray (Start
button,
quick list...)
I can get task manager up but I tried to run explorer and it locked
up.
So I think I have to reinstall XP and have been copying files using
boot
in
safe mode with a command prompt, a big hassle. Sometimes directories
don't
even display so I have know where to find things!!!
Some questions on this:
1) Is there a command I can run to try and get the sys tray back?
2) Is there a command I can run to open Windows Explorer-
explorer.exe
flashes the systray but doesn't open?
3) From the command prompt how do I get to a directory that has an
ampersand
in it? cd documents and settings\form&lists gives an error that the
command
is not recognized - it chokes on &
Thanks much!
