Doug,
Is that the same as repair? I ran repair from the CD and it finished but
still no systray. I went into the registry and it was seet to 1 so that
wasn't it either...

My PC (XP SP2) has been acting up and due to an error message in
Outlook
(Office 2003) about Google desktop I decided to remove it (Google
Desktop)
in
the control panel. Well my PC locked up while removing Google desktop
so
now
when I boot in safe mode or otherwise I have no system tray (Start
button,
quick list...)
I can get task manager up but I tried to run explorer and it locked up.
So I think I have to reinstall XP and have been copying files using
boot
in
safe mode with a command prompt, a big hassle. Sometimes directories
don't
even display so I have know where to find things!!!
Some questions on this:
1) Is there a command I can run to try and get the sys tray back?
2) Is there a command I can run to open Windows Explorer- explorer.exe
flashes the systray but doesn't open?
3) From the command prompt how do I get to a directory that has an
ampersand
in it? cd documents and settings\form&lists gives an error that the
command
is not recognized - it chokes on &
