Re: Processes taking up 100% of CPU when I'm doing nothing!

Tech Tip: Click here to run a free scan for Windows Errors and optimize PC performance

I suggest you try full virus and spyware scans from F8 Safe Mode this can
catch offenders that you don't catch from normal run mode.

Yes, I googled it and it showed that it probably runs behind
Installshield.
I actually disabled my internet temporarily, and it helped a lot. Not
sure
what to do though when I'm online, which is usually 99% of the time I am
on
my computer!

did you google agent.exe?

Mine is doing the same thing. 99% CPU in use with agent.exe using 90%
of
that! I hit it with three different spyware/malware applications to no
avail. Shut down Norton to no avail. Took out four programs that run
in
the
background to try to gain some power back, but agent.exe is a CPU
HOG!!!
What can be done to stop it? I've been cussing my computer out for
three
weeks now over this? Short of a full OS reinstall, is there anything
to
do?

As an experiment, try shutting down Norton for a bit and see what
happens
(disconnect from the Internet if you want to be safe). I have seen
several
systems with performance issues that were tied to Norton (or other
antivirus) software.

Have you tried shutting down agent.exe to see if that is the culprit?

I've been sitting through 10, 15, even 20 minutes of waiting for my
CPU
to
accept even the most elemental commands! I can understand when I
run
Photoshop that I'm using 40% but what the hey is going on with
"agent.exe"
that uses 40% and more? I've simplyfied my disks and desktop by
having
NO
screensaver, no desktop pictures, no games no programs other than
Explorer
(windows & internet), etc. I have the latest version of Norton
Antivirus
and
my computer is protected from invasions. I've delved into the
background
runnings and am completely at a loss for what is going on. Any
suggestions?
